Great news. I've come across a few of the holes he dug (mostly in the same area). Also use to see the guy in the truck trying to catch him. They should take his dog away from him. He doesn't deserve to have the pleasure of owning a dog.

Wow that's great the guy was caught! It's pretty luck for most of us that someone wasn't seriously hurt by the sh!t he pulled... pretty cowardly act to dig holes and hide them in an effort to try and hurt people he didn't even know.

I think we have the same thing going on down here. Last weekend I was on a trail by the house and there were all of these holes in the trail -- about the size of a horse hoof. Somebody must have dug those.

I love his comment that it was retaliation for nearly being run over. So, he risked innocent lives on probably the most heavily traveled trail in OC to retaliate against something that didn't even quite actually happen?!

Ranks right up there with people who swerve at roadies for being on "their" streets. What a world class idiot.

Does anyone know for sure if the holes referenced here are the infamous ones that you hit as you approach Laguna Lake? If so, he could not have chosen a less secluded spot; there is no cover there to hide his digging. Hell, I'm surprised it took this long to catch him.

In all seriousness, I would like to see his community service consist of cleaning up some of the horse..ahem..waste...that litters the Loop.

I took a newbie out for the Loop on Tuesday, looked back behind me to see where he was at & ran right through a big ole pile o'dookie.

It was still warm when it hit my face. Thank god for riding glasses.

I'll be very interested to see what sort of sentence is imposed here.

So if the holedigger sees you on the loop and calls you a s***head, he's really just making an accurate observation, eh?

California man arrested for digging 50 holes on bike trail
Saturday, January 05, 2008

California — Police said they arrested a man who acknowledged digging holes on a park bicycle trail in southern California as payback for nearly being run down by a cyclist.

Warren John Wilson, 52, faces a single felony count of vandalism, police Sgt. Linda King said Friday.
King said nearly 50 holes measuring about 1 foot by 2 feet (30 centimeters by 60 centimeters) have been found since June along a trail at Laguna Lake Park, and in some cases attempts had been made to hide them from cyclists. She said some riders went over their handlebars after hitting the holes, but none reported major injuries.
Detectives watching the trails questioned Wilson, who said he had nearly been run over by a mountain bike rider and began digging the holes in retaliation, King said.
Police said Wilson had been released from custody. A phone listing for him could not be found.

--------Yay! I've never heard of someone actually being caught after trying to maim or kill another mountain biker! Looks like they spent some time making a case to get this guy!

How many of y'all have come across booby trapped trails and what happened? I've had a number of trail encounters here in San Diego and Santa Barbara. One involved roofing tar covered nails all over the trail along with a tar covered post across the width of the trail around a blind corner, not to mention the various large rocks up in SB intentionally spread about to seize a cyclist coming downhill. Oh yeah, I've also come across fishing wire across a trail.

I removed all obstacles and reported to authorities but I always felt like there was a "ho hum" attitude from sheriff or police so I'm really glad to hear some are proactive.

A single count of vandalism seems rather minor considering what he was trying to do. He was attempting to inflict great bodily injury, yet he is charged with the same offense as some kid who is just mindlessly goofing around and knocks over a potted plant.
