Default Entrance Trail from LW to Aliso?

Is there a legal trail from laguna wilderness from aliso, ie that goes up the back side of aliso, or all they all closed? I'd like to do some longer rides and I've heard that many people do both parks in one day. If so, where's the bridge?

Stair Steps but it is more of a downhill route, though hiking up it is fine as well. Typically done with Aliso & Wood Canyons first then down Stair Steps into Laguna Wilderness then up Canyon Acres (open?) or back up Stair Steps

Others will chime in...

You can always go down Stair Steps, ride around Laguna, then take the Laguna bus to Top of the World and ride back in Aliso. With your bike, of course.

From the looks of the Aliso-Woods RMP the county is supposed to build a new access trail that comes off of Transpo Corridor (illegal) and connects with the bottom of Valhalla (illegal) and comes out at the El Toro-133 intersection. Apparently these are bad trails(illegal).....until the county decides they aren't

I have pedaled up some pavement to Top of the World in an Aliso/LCWP/El Moro loop and they was no fun at all. The bus route sounds might saavy.

yes, Canyon Acres is a classic climb, I have heard of people cleaning it on 45 pound freeride bikes, so it is totally do-able.

Heres a good one (from Canyon Vistas) up Cholla down Stairsteps, up Willow, over on Bommer, down T&A, up Canyon Acres, down Rock-It, back on Coyote/Wood Canyon, try it you'll like it!

It depends on where you want to end up. Canyon Acres is climbable fireroad, and takes you to the top at Alta Laguna. Stair Steps is the most direct route and pretty much right across the street from LW. You can climb up to the top of the paved part (Phillips Road), which gets you about halfway up, and the hike-a-bike the rest of the way isn't too bad. It can even be fun trying to clean some of the sections if you're into practicing your technical climbing. If you're pressed for time and parked at Canyon Vistas or the main parking lot on Alicia, it's probably faster.

Here's a link for the bus:

I never knew about the bus connection ... good input if not quite feeling up to the climb.

I ride my bike to work in downtown laguna, right next to the bus stop, so during the longer days, i hop on the bus after work to take me up there, go for a ride, and then cruise downhill home!

The main bus stop is on laguna canyon road (broadway) between Forest and Beach, the totw bus takes about 15-20 min, asthere are some other stops. There are also bus stops along laguna canyon. be warned, though, the bus only has a rack for 2 bikes, so if you're the 3d person with a bike youre SOL. Some of the drivers are cool about you bringing the bike inside the vehicle, but some arent.
