Hollenbeck Canyon Condition? (East San Diego)

Has anyone been there since the fires? I will like to check it out this Saturday but I'm wondering if is even open.

They just opened it last weekend. Went out there on Monday. Lots of fire damage, the entire place is burned up. There is however a lot of damage from horses and motorcycles. The motorcycles have gone crazy out there and churned up the trails a good bit. The trail with the mine stuff on it has changed a lot from water erosion, but still way fast. I road all the fire roads in each direction untill they are gated and evey trail in between and the place looks so much different w/ no vegetation. Wish I had a computer on my bike because I know I put in alot of miles.

I have to work on Saturday or I would join ya, have fun.

So you think is worth riding now or wait for the vegetation to come out, it will probably take a while.

As long as you stay in the trails there shouldn't be an issue. I am going to try to go out Sunday.

While I did not ride it, I was in the area. There is lot of new green grass on the burned hillsides around Jamul. In late summer most of the fireroads at Hollenbeck were graded making them powdery. My guess is the recent rains may have helped the fireroads out as well as the hillside. I'm thinking it may be a good bet this weekend.
