Default Help out at Whiting

The Park needs some help to try to keep people out of Fire Damaged areas whilst they recover & repair some of the damage. this is a great Park that a lot of us have enjoyed in the past & will be enjoying again in the near future. Here's a chance to help out. there are people regularly entering the park illegally that need to be educated.
I realise that we all have opinons on land access & the spending of our hard earned tax dollars, but the bottem line is right now they need help.
Call the number below if you are interested.
Taken from the OC Park Web Site

OC Parks has a large job ahead to help heal the damage. OC Parks is working with consultants and state and federal agencies on the best way to speed recovery. Though the park burned extensively, the land will recover with proper care. Historically, these natural communities burn every 20 to 70 years.

This website will be updated to advise visitors as to when facilities reopen. It is important for the public to be safe and to respect nature's healing process.

Those who would like to help OC Parks and Limestone Canyon and Whiting Wilderness Park in recovery efforts may volunteer on weekends.

The park needs volunteers to staff one of four entry areas to Limestone-Whiting (one to two volunteers for each entry area). Volunteers will inform the public of the park closure, passing out information on how they can best help heal the park.

For more information on volunteer opportunities, contact Adopt A Park at (714) 227-5927. A One Time or General Volunteer Application process is needed.

OC Parks will also be accepting monetary donations to help the park’s recovery. Please check back on this website for more information to come.

Right after the fire, Ken R of WS/SHARE said he sent out hundreds of emails through SHARE and only about a dozen answered the call. I did 6 hours at the front entrance on a Sunday. I was only suppose to do 4 hours but the guy who was suppose to relieve me never showed. I'm willing to do it again and give up one day of riding. Maybe we all should give back a little.

i drove by the whiting ranch entrance in the ralphs parking lot to see what kind of signs they had up. just one, a white roadsign blocking the parking lot with a closed sign on it.

and there was a couple walking in with dogs, and a guy coming out with a baby in one of those running strollers.

it is one thing to give up time, but all the gas money to drive over to OC is prohibitive. tell you what, i will ride up ITT and up to the peak and remind all the other riders that Main Divide is supposed to be closed.
