Did a quick jaunt up to Brown and to the Ken Burton memorial plaque and back down to El Prieto and back to car. Weather was about 72 degrees with stunningly clear views. You could easily see Catalina Island and The Pacific Ocean from any vista. I was bummed I didn't have my camera with me and all I can muster-up was crappy phone-camera photo's. Regardless, a stunning day with perfect Velcro like trail conditions.
To boot, I cleaned El Prieto today, top to bottom without having to unclip. For most, that's no big deal and for some others, it's a huge deal. As for me, I used to clean it to the point where the trail begun to get boring. Fast forward to present time; post a serious injury and pure and simple laziness and after putting in some time in the saddle for the past few weeks, I started getting my bearings back. No huge deal, just felt good to feel slowly getting my strength and balance back. All via the original EP route with no bypasses. The tech sections have not been the issue but rather a couple of switchbacks. Total miles=14.50. Surprisingly, only saw 4-5 riders the whole day. You'd think everyone and their mom would be out riding. The icing on the cake was seeing Slappy on the bridge in the Arroyo, just before the split up to Brown/Arroyo. I was finishing and he was just getting started on his Cannondale SS. I almost didn't recognize him without his signature blue/gray jersey then the smell of his gloves gave me déjà-vu and I called out his name. We shot the shiat a little and went our separate ways. Good to see old friends! A view of the Pacific from Ken Burton... ![]() Kenny's looking a little neglected but the upper section was in great shape... ![]()

Yeah, but that was no simple injury, Joe. Glad to see you out here again and look foward to getting some rides in. Good Ol Slappy is everywhere doing his "secret" rides.
He's always telling us, " I've been off the bike for weeks", then he takes off like a bat outta hell and the chase is on!

OMG, he tried to sell me the same ol' b.s. and said it was first ride in 4 weeks. He's so full of it! ![]()
