Default People are knuckleheads

Not to be too MTBR here, but I would like to offer a big "What the heck are you thinking??" to the person(s) that did this:

This photo is on the main page at sdrp.org. It's of MTBers going off trail at Lake Hodges just because they think it's OK since there's no brush "blocking" their way.

There are signs everywhere reminding you to stay on trail, yet 1 or 2 bad apples are making us all look bad. The text under the pic reads:

ATTENTION BICYCLISTS!
PLEASE HELP EDUCATE FELLOW
TRAIL USERS
Your access to burn areas is dependent upon trail users' willingness to stay on designated trails ONLY and out of recovering vegetation

The picture above shows the start of what will become severe erosion. On the recently burned slopes, just one bicyclist riding downhill creates the start of rivulets that will become major ruts, leading to erosion and failure of the native plants to re-grow.
PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD - STAY ON THE TRAILS.

It appears that the Rangers are threatening to restrict future access to bikes due to this. Is this an empty threat or do you think they'll actually do it?

Arrghh! I was riding up in Marshall last Sunday and noticed a couple "new" trails. As I was coming down I noticed a group of horseback riders cutting down a ridge and also noticed the "new" trails had hoof marks and not tire tracks. I'm all for new trails but lets do it right so our riding areas expand, not shrink.

Do you mean like the Crips or Bloods no, but I am one of the founding members of SDMBA, I am sort of on a sabbatical from advocacy work, I just relinquished my Board position to allow new blood to join the Board, the new Board member is Richard Julian AKA Taffy, he is working on the La Costa Trail.
It looks like I should make tomorrows ride, looking foreword to meeting the STR crew.

Cool. Nice to have you here!!

The text included with the pic above hints at bikes being banned if people don't stop going off trail. In your opinion, what is the likelihood of that happening?

It’s a possibility if we don’t police ourselves, the Rangers have the authority to close trails if they have solid evidence cyclist are the ones damaging sensitive habitat, although in my experience most Rangers don’t like to close trails to a single user group unless they are pressured to do so, that pressure could come from the CAC or as I mentioned evidence cyclist are damaging sensitive habitat.

In the youtube vid, the guy said he was riding by himself toward the beginning. The pic at the beginning shows two tracks. Of course, another loner could have done the same thing.

Although it could have been the guy on the Cannondale at the end, and Karma caught him.

There are new signs up at the Ranch House with a photo of a mountain biker doing an endo... and then a sign about illegal trail building going on at Daley in the far reaches of the park.. doesn't say it is mountain bikers specifically building the trails.. just that there have been bushes trampled and small trees cut down.

Here is the SDMBA Trail News.

Attention all Mountain Bikers- Please stay on designated trails within the park.

Urgent request from the San Dieguito River Park- Lake Hodges

Cutting new trails and going into sensitive areas will cause more damage to the park's ecosystem due to erosion and destruction of the recovering plant life.

Also you are causing serious harm to the relationship Mountain Bikers have built with the SDRP Rangers and Management and this may once again cause all Mountain Bikers to lose access to the SDRP trail system.

Think before you go off trail, actions of a few will ruin it for many.
