SJT Ride on Sunday 4-3-05 (see Pics in Album under SJT)

Dell, Adam, Armando, and me (Pete) started from lower lot at about 8:40. It was cool, but we could tell that wouldn't last. It was Armando's first time there, and Dell had never been past Cocktail Rock. I was having trouble with my pedals due to new shoes (old clips and pedals, though). That, along with limited skill caused a skinned knee on about the 8th swithback. The right turn with the big hump on the inside. I managed to hit the hump head on. Not good.

Trail was in good shape- a little deeper ruts than usual, but not too bad. Anyway, we kept a pretty good pace on up to Cocktail rock. At that point Adam went back down and the three of us proceeded up the rocks on the Old SJT. The descent down to the meadow was pretty hairy at first- huge ruts- but got reasonable for most of the way down. The meadow was pretty wet and muddy. Lots of poison oak, too. Climbed up to the intersection with the New SJT and took a rest.

Took a right on the New SJT and the next mile or two was great. The last section back up to Cocktail Rock was difficult- moreso than I remember (maybe more rocks on the trail due to rain). The descent back down from Cocktail Rock was great. A little sandy, but the last couple miles were packed and the switchbacks are always a blast.

This was definitely a great ride. though next time a long ride up from cocktail rock would be awesome. hopefully more guys can join the fun next time.
