Ok, I have to admit that I've not been one for the RR's but thats mainly because of the "Not Pic, suck report" rule.
But I have a new toy to help me put that rule to rest. (LINKAGE) So, Saturday After finding out my Bro wasn't coming to spend time with the fam and being bummed about it Blonde Wahine (Who misses you all Terribly) told me to get out and ride it off. So I did. Now most of you bark about the 909/IE/Dirt people living in an odd place, but if you're wondering why we don't rebuke the comment, it's because we want you to keep talking yourself out of it ![]() I digress, so I left my front door hopped on the bike and pedaled up Archibald till I got to the Fire road, took that to Sapphire made a right up the pavement past the gate, took the right at the fork, and went UP, and UP, and UP (minus a few stops for minor trail maintenance ie Large fallen rock removal) I stopped about 3 miles from the summit because the "Fireroad" I could see from my house was actually a REALLY exposed single track and I didn't want to keep going at it alone . After that I turned around and headed back. The GPS wasn't as charged as I thought so it didn't record the whole route, but mileage hit about 25 with about 4500 feet of climbing. Here is the Vid I put together of the decent that goes until I take a left along the foothills. Please help me figure out what makes a good Vid, I need the help.

Mr Freak and I did that ride in January 07. Great climbing it just keeps going up. I would ride there again especially with some snow on the ground. I bet it gets mucho hot out there in the summer. A couple of pics from that ride.
I remember that ride well I had a front tire blow out going down hill and went down hard...have a nice scar on my knee to remember it. I was dressed for the snow with douple/triple layers or it would have been much worse. ![]()

Thanks for the video NOW I want to get up there again after the 1st. I'm lucky also like yourself cause I can reach it from my house by crossing across Cucamonga Canyon to the Sapphire start. I get a kick out of Dean's pics because I painted and did all the lettering on that sign in the first photo in the early 80's when I worked out of the Sycamore Forest service station cool to see it has lasted all these years thanks Dean love seeing it.

I'd like to do that ride again and continue further up. I know we covered quite a bit of ground that day, but I'd love to take it a lot more. The descent is really quite fun and a little techy in places.

Thats a fun ride for sure... I assume that oyu stayed to the rt and went up....
I was contemplating riding up baldy road and comming down from the other side. I've ridden up at the fork you just take a left and its all single... but at one point you have to figure out how to climb/get your bike up across a 7 foot or so step up... I feel like the ride down would be safe and you would see this "drop to death" beforehand... anytakers? we could ride up then down... or ride up baldy rd then down the trail? |

I wanted to do this ride again soon, but with the rain and Christmas parties, this weekend is a no go. I may take off Friday next week and it could work for then. What the Video doesn't show is that the Fork had a bit of a land slide and they had to Remake it. That and we may need to do a little clearing on the way up to help out. I saw tracks over on the other fork but have never been and am getting excited at the prospect. It's nice to finally live so close to mountains

The vid looks great. I like the rear view tire shot. Sections where your shadow came in and out were cool, also the play of the shutterspeed vs the tire knobs.
One idea would be to get another camera and do front and back at the same time. Film riders in front of you hitting something and then switch to the reverse veiw showing the riders behind hitting the same thing. Obviously it would work better on singletrack. Keep em coming. |
