We had great turnout of 59 people at today's co-hosted Warriors Society/SHARE sponsored work event. Debra Clarke with the USFS was there to let us in the gate and let us park at the bottom of the Silverado (motorway old name) Trail. The bad news is it's actually it's now a road. She also led us up the trail lent and hand and then graciously helped serve us lunch provided by the Warriors Society.
Thanks everyone for showing up and busting butt. Now for the pics: silveradopano01.jpg People arriving early at the gate at the end of Silverado Canyon Road. silveradopano02.jpg Parking at bottom of Silverado Trail. silveradopano03.jpg Chris Vargas from The Warriors Society greets the crowd and begins splitting people into groups with different types of tools. IMG_6683.jpg The work party starts up the trail...er eh..road. IMG_6684.jpg Ken Rands from SHARE giving a demonstaration (spoken) on how to construct a water bar. ...continued...
It was nice to see that despite the damage done fighting the fire that most of Silverado Canyon appears to be unscathed by the fire. IMG_6696.jpg Tim from Switchback Cyclery cutting out some rebar. IMG_6698.jpg Eron B. aka Barney Rubble moving a big boulder for a water bar. IMG_6700.jpg IMG_6701.jpg One of the firebreaks cut by a hand crew going straight down the fall line. silveradopano04.jpg silveradopano05.jpg Debra clarke from the USFS instructing people on what to work on next. silveradopano06.jpg IMG_6709.jpg At this point in the trail a dozer firebreak heads steeply up the left while the trail (still a singletrack) continues to the right. That's Keith P. and MtnbikeJ in the middle removing shrubbery. IMG_6717.jpg Treve and Chip. IMG_6722.jpg Eron making short work of a large boulder while MtnbikeJ waits to finish it off. IMG_6724.jpg The finished product..a rerouted drainage channel. Nice work! silveradopano07.jpg Now that's a work party! IMG_6726.jpg Lunch was a welcome site after some hard work on the mountain. Great turnout today. If it weren't for the amount of folks that showed, we'd still be out there. Thanks to all who came out. See you all at the next one. Now there's still time to get a ride in before dark.

Huge thanks to everyone who went out there today. Wish I could have joined, but other commitments kept me away for this one.
BTW: I think something like the "work party shot should have a place in the STR calendar!

John - pick a good photo and post it in the calendar thread! Too tired to choose.
Thanks for the work, everyone. Sad to see the fire road. |

Pretty sad to see what the Motorway err... Silverado Trail ended up being. Aside from building water bars, we started to think like mtbers and made lines so eventually those lines will become the new single track once it takes shape.

Apparently also at the top extensive earthwork was done to prevent 4x4 from entering the trail from the top. I don't have first hand accounts of what that looks like. KeepsWhatHappens |

check out the Warriors Society photos of the Silverado trail work, they have a couple pix showing the large crater's that were created to prevent 4x4's from accessing the trail. pretty insane looking...

Eron shows that MSR gloves have more use than motorcycle riding. Nice form Magnus Ver Magnussan. |
