Default RR: Snow Summit and lots of snow!

Not really a MTB review but I know there are some snow folks lurking on the board!

Dave, Traci, Maddie, Tilea, Manny and I went up Saturday night, Night SART was a no go via the Mill Creek Rangers!, with dry roads and hopes for some snow....we got it sunday morning!

Here are some pix from the sunday morning and from the day at Summit. Dave had his new gear, Tilea and Manny were making their debut, Traci was extremely excited for snow- hard to believe she is from socal- and maddie once again floored me with her riding.
Her and I went up the quad and she conquered Summit Run, a green run but pretty long for a 5 year old! She rules!!!

Beautiful trees on the way up!

Good times!
Can't wait for the STR snowday, Maddie should be ready!

I was amazed of the view from down below. It looked so beautiful. I haven't seen it like that in years. Hopefully it's a sign of a good snow season. Can't wait for the Christmas party madess to end so I can head up.

That would be a blast! It took Ms. Penny a bit to decide if she liked the snow, but after she saw Maddie playing in it she wanted to be in it too. It was as tall as her in places and didn't like to put her *bottom* in it if ya know what I mean

What explanation did the rangers give? I'm pretty certain that the National Forest doesn't have designated hours of operation?!?!!?

Weird.

Snow looks good though....I'm surprised they got that much.

It was more about snow chains on the 38 (R2 = snow chains on all 4 tires)

I called to see about road conditions and not being to sneaky I asked about the trail, there was a long pause, a question of why? etc so I took that as a maybe next time when there isn't rain and snow on the same day. Not a big deal, snowboarding is kind of fun too!

I was up at Bear Mountain on Sunday. Lots of new snow. Skiing wasn't bad either.

Lots of idiot drivers who have no F___king clue when it comes to driving in the snow. I must have seen over 20 traffic accidents that day in Big Bear. Thankfully no fatalies or injury wrecks. Just a LOT of fender benders. Since none of those accidents involved me, it was quite entertaining to watch these dumb sh!ts.

My personal favorite moment of the day was the front wheel drive Toyota Prius with the chains on the rear wheels, trying to climb up a short 5% grade with the pedal to the floor with the rear wheels stopped and front wheels spinning at about 3000 rpm on the ice, sliding sideways into the ditch on the shoulder at 5 mph. Awesome!

How was Bear? Was it crowded? from the website, it still looked like Summit had more runs open?

We watched the same thing happen last year up the road past the golf course just before Bears lot, everyone was stepping and spinning and no-one was moving, being from MN (and used to driving on ice & snow without chains or 4wd), we just feathered the gas and went around all the idiots blocking traffic .

since this is off topic anyway - i have to ask. How to you have the bike trays mounted to your Armada? I drive the same vehicle but have to use the Yakima Load Warrior to attach my fork mounted bike racks.

Yakima doesn't make the pieces that attach to the rails guides but Thule does. We had all Yakima stuff already, so we had to get creative. Thule bars also, then clipped out the peices of the Yakima clips to allow them to fit the square bars. then all our Yakima stuff fit.

http://www.thuleracks.com/fg_total.a...er=1&x=25&y=14

The rack sits in the back rail guides, not on the front & back rails like the load warrior.

I hope that helps...
