Default RR: Sycamore Canyon Riverslime (oops..Riverside)

I pulled up to the lot at 8:45 p.m. and counted about 15 riders and I thought "Cool....that's a good turnout"...but everytime we got ready to roll another car would pull up ..by about 9:20 we had 26 riders in the parking area!

So we all took off towards the "Triple R" trail which is a 1 1/2 mile climb on a single-track trail...conditions were great.....no standing water or mud anywhere....

I rode sweep and unfortunately we lost a rider who turned around and headed home since he wasn't feeling so good.....the rest of the group got to the top and we then bombed down a trail called Terry's Wall which has a nice steep drop and a downhill switchback followed by a nice water crossing...

After some fireroads we got to "Dookies" playground where some of the more insane riders were taking drops off a 20 foot steep-sloping rock formation (yikes) and then the group rode through a fun downhill section that has some nice "S" turns and berms.....

Onwards we went to Little Moab.....and I was impressed by all the folks who rode the rocks on their very first try since it took me like 2 years to over-analyze-walk-visualize and then finally launch off of them.....

After some nice steps across the North Arroyo....the majority of the group hit Rattle Snake...a fast downhill section with a nice big rock-drop at the bottom followed by a steep left-hand switchback then another quick right up a grinding granny-hill climb.

Since I organized the ride...I decided it would be OK for me to skip Rattlesnake : ) ... so I led the remainder of the group around the trail and towards Middle Sycamore -a fast sweeping single-track down-hill - and then back to the dirt parking area on Central.

Total mileage was about 12 miles total elevation gain I have no idea...

It was so much fun that the Team Dirty Work riders (Andy, Reed, Wreck, Blueman, Cedrid, DTM and I decided to ride it again BACKWARDS for a total of 24 miles for this group)

It was fun and thanks everyone for coming out to RiverSlime! We have to do it again sometime...maybe in the summer when its 105 (not)

(If anyone has more pics please post....thanks!)
Thanks

-Oz

Thanks to Os for setting this ride up. I hadnt ridden in over a month and was jonesin to ride and with the rain there were only a couple of places to ride. I didnt know what to expect since I hadnt been to Sycamore before and it was a pleasant surprise. Riding with the view of the mountains with snow caps was the best, hopefully someone got a pic. I met so many cool people today and its was finally good to put a face to a name. Nice to meet Reedster, bobzrag, Permagrin, Osmarandsara, and JOX2 of STR. But there was several more Van, Doc, Rich, Alex and Dan who will probably be posting on STR shortly. Good to see the old faces too and you scrubs know who you are.

Thanks Andy and Nancy for taking pics.

Good job Andy on Oh $hit conquering your demon. You have 2 witnesses but no pics!

Reedster, Oz, and Andy great ambassadors for Riverside!

It was great to meet a bunch of new folks (too many to list!) and put the faces to the names. I wasn't sure what to expect with the wet conditions but this park lived up to it's reputation and didn't disappoint. The views with the snow capped peaks were fantastic and the downhill "S" turns were way too much fun! Did anyone hear me woohoo'in before I slipped on the rock? :-D

Thanks to all for the encouragement along the way and for each of the sweepers for keeping me company while I hauled my butt up those hills. Damn the hills. Many thanks to Os for putting on a great ride. I definitely plan on returning to this park soon!

You guys really do rock .

Fun ride today! The way the weekend started with the rain I was thinking I wouldn't get any riding in. Nice meeting some new peeps as well.
Thanks Oz and Reed for leading us around and the after ride snack!

Sorry I missed your guys ride, but when it snows you got hit it while it is rideable. It is a mess once it melts and re-freezes. Anyway the only thing better than looking at the snow peaks are riding them. Pic from todays reverse Strawberry ride.

But Deano, you know my adversion to cold weather!

So I decided to do the Riverside ride as I haven't roode it in two years. In fact the last time was New Years Day 2005. Some of the riders today were on that group ride too.

Left the house this morning and it was very windy and very cold, but I know it changes as you get a mile either way. I live in a section where the wind is funneled through. Here's waht I see when I pull out...

Look at the trees and how they're bending...

Pretty good size group... they just kept coming, and then some more would show up

Not sure of all the names but these are some real fun trails. I would of liked to have joined the group on the return trip, but I also wanted to check out the Path sale. Not sure of the name of this section...

And then there was this lady she was tearing it up out there. Obviously a xc racer from somewhere.

I believe this is what's called Dookies playground, come to think about it, he wasn't there today. This looks like it could be tons of fun, but I'll have to work up to it. Never rode that section before.

A big thanks to my fellow IE friends. Thanks Oz, Andy and Reedster and all the rest. I hope to return the favor some day. My favorite rides are up in the San Gabes, but I ride everywhere. So if you ever need a tour guide, hit me up and I'll show you some of the stuff I know.

What really amazed me was my bike didn't get a single bit of mud on it, clean as it was as I took it out of the garage, in fact maybe a little cleaner.Last time I rode here we did hit a few puddles that put a little mud on us, but this time it was just about perfect. That section with those "S" turns was a real treat, I could do that over and over again.

Even closer...

It won't be two years before I ride here again!

i wasn't sweeping i was just very slow and so happen to be right behind you.

The weather is perfect, clear skies, snow capped mountain view, tacky trails and a great turn out today at Sycamore Canyon. Once again, nice to put faces on names and nice meeting everybody (too many to names that i again forgot j/k). Kudos to Os for setting this one up and finally a local trail that is full of fun and pain thanks to Rattle Snake. The descent is the most fun part especially the S berm.

For a newbie like me, its great riding with you all and some of the best riders out there, you guys made it look so easy. i can only hope one day ill be trail riding like you guys.

Thanks to "onlyontwo" for taking pictures.

nice meeting denmother, roger, pain freak, permagrin, hanzo, van, doc, reed, bob, os and to some whose name i already forgot (sorry), nice meeting you all.

Thanks everyone for showing up and joining us for a great ride. It's fun to show people the trails in our backyard and it usually manages to get more of the locals out as well as the STR people who made the trek from various places. That was the biggest group I've seen out there.

The weather was great and the trail conditions were perfect. All the great people made it even better.

I want to ride more in the San Gabriels, so please keep me informed of your rides there. I've only done a couple of rides and I know that there are a lot more trails to explore.

Great ride yesterday, the weather was perfect and the views of the Mountains were amazing. Great to meet everyone and put faces to screen names. Sycamore had something for everyone, fun rolling hills that held up very well even though they got a bunch of rain the night before as well as some fun rocks to do drops and rolls.

I really like that you can get 25 people of differing skill levels out for a ride but everyone stops and makes sure that the group catches up and is having fun!
