just curious.
Take another look

I hope whoever knows the photographer and his buddies mentions that they SHOULDN'T be riding out there since it is CLOSED.

it's not like they were hiking. There were bikes clearly shown in multiple shots.

The rest of us are waiting until the closed area is open, why can't they?

Let the forest service do their job and assess the damage. It isn't up to each and every one of us to go "looky-loo" just because we feel like it.

I didn't ride there for the record, but again will say I posted these images so that other might not feel the need to go out there and look for themselves.

I find it really odd though that people have their panties in such a bunch about not riding this "closed" trail.

And as for the USFS assessing the damage, I doubt the forest service will even set foot on STT or Luge until the forest is opened, except maybe to put up another "Trail closed" sign. They and the firefighters have already done more damage to the trail by dozing it than 10,000 bikers could.

And what about the sign the USFS put up some 5 years ago on STT when their was a minor slide just before the "wall" on the trail. This sign said "Trail closed."

But I'll bet 99.9% of everyone on this board rode right past that sign without a thought, again and again.

That would make 99.9% of us hypocrites.

Yeah, I remember that sign. I asked a fellow rider about it and he said it was from a while back when the trail had collapsed, but it was rerouted. Was it? The first time I rode it was in 2000, but I didn't really notice a difference.

The "re-route" is the spot just before "the wall" where the trail gets narrow and there is some exposure on the right side (when going up). The trail is held in place by boards holding the dirt back that are held in place by vertically driven long metal spikes.

I'm not sure who "fixed" the trail but it most likely wasn't the USFS because they would have taken the sign down.

Pretty sure the Baer guys were in there from the CDF. Theyv been in most of the burn areas and have walked most of the major drainage and watershed, to asses the damage and to estimate the risk for floods and mud slides.

I wasn't riding bikes 5 years ago, so I'm pretty sure I didn't pass the sign.

I think the sign is still there, unless it burned.

not to derail the topic but my father-n-law tends to do similar things. apparently they have their wednesday night rides...and they were supposed to ride Blackstar but were turned away by the dangers stating that there were landslide dangers or something.

well they werent going to let that deter them they went to go ride another trail that's near a creek or and were subsequently chased by the park rangers complete w/ spot lights looking for them. he and his group didnt get caught but a part of me wished that he did because then they would have thought twice before doing something like this.

Just dont understand.
