Default RR: Morrow Bay, Ca. Weekend

I had a great weekend hanging out with Shannon and Bruce. Since Shannon is still off the bike it was great that Lynn came up to have someone to ride with. The riding pics are for Montana de Oro State Park, near Morrow Bay. Good place to ride, but that climb up East Boundary Trail not Single Speed friendly...it is a steep loose climb.

The other pics are of Elephant Seals on the beach, Ragged Point, Sea Otters near Morrow Rock and Bruce and Shannon’s house in Morrow Bay. Good stuff will be back in the spring when things are green. In talking to my relatives that live in San Luis Obispo there are some remote trails back in the Los Padres National Forest behind SLO that sound very interesting.

Nothing better during a frustrating recovery then having some good friends to keep you company. That is of course until they rode off on their bikes, leaving me to wipe the tears away... Kidding of course. Lynn had to leave early Sunday morning but Dean was able to stay for some sight seeing. With the help of Dean's eagle eye and trail scouting, we found what looks like a fun ride up near Big Sur with some stellar views from the top. Looking forward to getting back out on my bike and exploring some of the new found trails with the gang. Thanks Lynn and Dean for a fun and laugh filled weekend!!

With the rain in LA on Friday it looked like it was a good time to hit the road...Shannon and Bruce run a great B & B up there. Food, lodging, and MTBing. Not to mention wonderful views, good friends and lots of laughs.

"Tick-tack paddywhack, where's your bone?"

Thanks for another wonderful weekend. Heal up quickly girl, we miss you out on the trails.

Great Pics Dean, sorry I missed out on the sight-seeing, and trail scouting. Can't do it all but still trying

Stuff we looked at on Sunday was above Ragged Point and is a mixture of Forest Service Road going thru private property and Los Padres National Forest. We were told that there is a Buddhist Monastery 6 miles back in there.

Dean, when do you plan to hit the Big Sur area?

if you guys head up north on the 101 from socal there's a nice little ride up to a hot springs off the 101 pass santa barbara. Exit Cabrillo HWY/ hwy 1 and hang a right then a quick right towards the park, signs everywhere. its called gaviota hot springs. its a natural hotsprings which takes about 1/2 mile from the parking lot and there's trails off of that too. Or when you exit 101 to hwy 1 go west and over the 101, then left on San Julian road which is about a 1/4 mile from 101.follow that road and pass a school and towards the end of the road where you can park. then from there just follow the fire road then it becomes a ST all the way to the top and enjoy the view. moderate climb but rewarding.

if anybody is looking for a guide to trails up in SLO hit me up when im up there(most of the time during the school year). There's lots of fun stuff back in los padres. pretty much whatever your skill level can take. just remember the fat tires and spare tubes, its rock country.

btw, cool pics. I love MDO, the descent from the peak is one of my favorites

bloody nose would be the super-awesome descent i was referring to

the top of it is the top of the peak shown here:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=e...wloc=addr&om=1

and it dumps you out right across the street from the parking area to go up east boundary.

its an excellent trail, with a good mix of bumpy, flowy, and loose. keep an eye out when it gets flatter, since you'll run into (literally) a bunch of beach sand that can be a tad sketchy.
