Default RR: Mill Creek & Remington Ridge

On Sunday Gino, Dave, Allison and I did a ride that is off the beaten path a bit. Any of you who have driven up to Lake Isabella from Bakersfield have come up HWY 178. On the right side of the road is the Breckenridge range. Both of these trails start at the top of the range and end down on the old canyon road. Both are awesome downhill trails that are rarely ridden. The long shuttle is the problem. We decided to hire a driver so we could do both without having to retrieve the truck. It turned out to be a great plan.
These rides start up at 7000' and go down to about 2000'. The days tally was 19 miles, 1000' of climbing, 11,000' of decent. A ton of narrow, tight singletrack. The views were spectacular and the sky was crystal clear. Here are a few pics

It was 31 degrees at 9:30 at 7000'

This is a route we will be doing again for sure. We are trying to take advantage of the lack of snow in the higher elevations.

My Kernville area to do list just grew a little longer. I'm surprised you guys didn't get any snow at the higher elevations from this last storm.

This shuttle involved a little more driving than Gino's parents would want to do.

Dean - it is hard to believe that we still have such clear trails up high. Sherman Pass is still open and clear. It is great fun but I hope it doesn't last much longer. We need the moisture bad.

Craig - We didn't get any rain out of that last storm. It didn't make it this far North. It was cloudy and threatening but no rain or snow.

Hell yea...11000ft of flow downhill single track. That was an awesome day.

Thanks Jeff for organizing and setting up the shuttle.

And thanks to Stewards of the Sequoia for doing great work on these trails. Last time I road Remington ridge was a few years ago and the whole ride was rutted out. The amount of work it received since then is awesome. I couldn't believe it was the same trail.

I would like to do a repeat of that ride but it looks like this weekends storm might be for real. Ill be bummed if the high elev stuff gets closed out for the winter...but we need the snow pack.

Count me in the next time. We may have to wait for spring, but that looks hella fun!
