Los Penasquitos Canyon Trails Temporary Closure Due To Rain
Message from the Senior Park Ranger

Hi All,

Well the rainy season has officially started. We were trying not to do it, but because of the large amount of water coming down the stream we decided we needed to close the trails. I'll let you know when we open them, it should only be a day or two, everything is soaking in nicely. We have already lost one bridge on the east part of the TCT, we'll have to wait until we can get into the Preserve to see if we've lost any more.

Thanks,
Gina Washington, Senior Park Ranger, Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve

City Of San Diego, Park & Recreation Department, Open Space Division

What's TCT?

Not sure but this is for the preserve only. I would guess Wagon Wheel that thing always gets killed in the rains. But it could be ranch house, PQ Creek, Carson's, or Sycamore bridge located up stream from Wagon.

TCT is the Trans County Trail, it’s the same trail as the Sea-to-Sea but the TCT stops at Anza-Borrego and the Sea-to-Sea goes to the Salton Sea.

TCT

Sea to Sea

Thanks for the answer to that question. I know your one of the guys who knows a lot about the SD trails. I have seen many of your post over the years on MTBR. Happy to see you sharing good info on this forum.

I hate it when that happens.

One time on my trail commute I got all the way to Lopez before there was a closure. That was my first (and last) trip up by Qualcomm.

as of this afternoon the Lopez side(sorrento mesa) was open, I saw the sign myself, but probably will be closed as rain is knocking on the door...

Thats good to hear but I agree. The sky looks really bad out right now but little wind and no rain. If it does rain for a couple days it will be another week they close it.

I would just take PQ off the list for the next week or so. Not sure if its true but over on emptybeer they are talking about the next round of trail access reviews coming up. So lets try to keep bike tracks off the trail while its closed so we don't loose access again.

I think you're down the hill. I'm on Carroll Rd. near Recho.

yes, there are PQ CAC meetings. (Citizen Advisory committee)

The PQ CAC Meetings are held on the 3rd Thursday of odd-numbered months, 7:00 pm, at the Santa Maria de los Peñasquitos Adobe building, off of Black Mountain Road.

SDMBA is looking for representatives to be on the PQ CAC board, we have two open positions we need filled.

If you are not a member of SDMBA, I would highly recommend joining, it only cost $20 per year to join. If you are a SDMBA member thank you for your support.
