Thumbs up RR: Chiquito Trail/Pedal UP!

Great ride today guys! The group consisted of Crashmax, Joel, David, Danny Socal Ridur and his pops Ron (who Darin kept calling Rob ) The climb up from the Candy store was pretty uneventful was a nasty grind up the paved road to blue jay. Right from the start of the san juan trail, Ron wasn't feel it with the xc bike, skinny 2.0 tires and super high seat and quickly stopped to adjust the seat. For his first ride on the bike, he did well and so his Danny... good to see that you're riding trails other than Oaks these days.. What can i say, it was a small group and we kept the regroups to a minimum.. no flats or mechanicals at all the leaves on the trail made it hard to judge exactly how the dirt was going to grip when coming into a corner... i washed out on one and flew off the bike almost went over the bars on another section... This bubb David and his vintage Votec carbon bike was just killing it out there, can't imagine how he would ride on a up to date bike..

didn't take many pics but here we go

Darin Crashmax and Danny

Joel, David and Ron out back

Ron Hiking

David rollin the spine

Joel hits both

Darin doesn't crash on this one

Thumbs up Chiquito - Pedal UP!

Just a short RR, with a couple of shots from todays ride.

Nam, Danny, his Dad Rob, Joel, David, and I hit up the Chiquita trail today.

Rob spends most of his two wheel time on his road tandam with his wife, but today got a taste of one of OC's best trails!
With only his second ride on his new Mongoose, Rob held his own, killing all of us on the road climb to Blue Jay.
And with only hitting the dirt once or twice, and still smiling when we finished, I think Danny's gonna have an easier time getting his Dad back in the dirt!

I hadn't hit Chiquito in probably a year. After today's ride, I won't be waiting that long to go back!

Here's the pics I took, and I believe Nam got a few also.

Joel, road riding.

Nam and Danny. I told them the climbing will start in a minute.

Danny finds out....
"it's a long way to the top, if you wanna rock'n roll!

Nam, putti'n the pedal down!

I'd just missed catching Jole in the AIR right here!

Further on down Chiquito we hit the log crossing.

Joel....

Nam......

Then we hit the rocky, dry, creek crossing.

David made it accross and up!

Rob comes up to it and decides, "maybe next time".

I've said it before, and I'll say it again....

Every good ride has a little hike-a-bike in it!

Nam HAB!(notice that Danny is PEDALING up behind him)

It was a great ride today!
Watching Danny muscle his 40lb'er up the climbs is very impresive.

And riding an "old" trail with "old" friend's?
Does it get any better?

THanks for posting.... I saw Chiquita for the first time on TG day, and really enjoyed the trail. We did an out and back and also saw the other big STR group at the cocktail rock intersection. Super fun trail, and I'm looking forward to getting back there sometime soon... I shot some video which I'll eventually get posted somewhere....

It's a damn shame when a man with a perfectly good shuttle vehicle is forced to pedal up the road!

How was the construction on Ortega Hwy? Did it delay you guys much going to the ride and leaving?

We've never had to wait long, especially on weekends. Tuesday night we drove across for a truck thing (we got ours in SJC) and had to sit for probably 10-12 minutes. Everyone going west had their engines shut off.

Even with waiting 10 mins + we were still the lucky ones. Those driving home from work in the OC were backed up all the way from the 1 lane to the freeway (yeah, the 5).

But, on a typical weekend we've never waited more than probably 5-8 minutes at most.

i think we waited 5 minutes tops, no big deal if you ask me... the road was a bit choppy where construction was (fire station) going on, but super smooth to the candy store.

Oh man, you're killing me!

We sure missed you yesterday!

Traffic wasn't bad. I didn't vevn know they were working on the road until we hit that section. Geuss it shows how long it's been since I've ridden over there.
