Default Thanksgiving Day rides

I know there was one happening in OC ,but with the restrictions now I don't know where they'll have it, so I thought we should start a thread to give people the heads up....

In my area (909) we have the Sunset Ridge ( don't confuse it with Sunset Trail in Pasadena area) ride which starts by the Mt Baldy village and goes all the way down to Marshall Canyon or right above it. This is a shuttle ride, but you shouldn't have a problem getting a ride back up. We usually get anywhere from 30 to 100 riders. Start time has always been 8 am. But there's no one who really takes charge of the ride so people can start anytime they want. There are people starting as early as 6:30, and one year I did it twice and my second time up was 9:30 and lots of guys were still coming up. Very fun ride with a small amount of climbing and a very fast and long descent.

we REALLY need to start training for VQ!!!!!! now that we can't baseline ourselves, i will never know if we can make the last cutoff.

i can't express how i feel about that whole situation.

Yup it bit me last year, but it is a fun ride. It's only about 17 miles, some nice little climbs fun downs. You just have to watch the ruts.

Mike have you ever done it the opposite way, or an out and back?

Yeah we climbed it about 6 years ago just so we could say we did. Took all day though and was not that much fun. On the trip down a bud of ours couldn't stop in time and hit the gate. Fractured his leg. Not a good ending to a loooong day.

Ride at Aliso, too, with refreshments at the Top of the World (provided by Rock N Road).

As for VQ, baseline is always nice, but you can figure out the pace you need to have the day of the event as well. About all that we have now
I'm kind of worried about hitting the "new" Motorway and not knowing what to expect. I hope the Warroirs can get us out for some maintenence to assure that the trail stays attached to the hill and is relatively safe...blah blah blah

Where do you park in the Baldy Village? Do you need a Wilderness pass?. I have never done this ride. I'm really not a very aggressive rider. Would I need Armor(pads)?
Thanks for any info.
Fight On!.... U S C ..IN the Rose Bowl???????

No pads required, that's just CC, she was looking for a little attention and went down hard that day, but she did get a lot of attention. Not sure of the parking situation this year. Last year they posted no parking signs, but everyone parked there anyways and there were no problems. We can park on the side of the road too, or down in the village and do the short climb up on the asphalt. I'd classify this as a beginner friendly ride as there is a little amount of climbing in the beginning and then a few more short climbs on the way down. We are meeting at Oak Mesa School parking lot on Wheeler Ave in LaVerne at 7:15 am, and then we'll work out the shuttle from there.
