Default Stt trail is closed

Rode it twice this week, up to/down the Luge. The dirt is clean hardpack and in really good shape (red in places from flame retardent) with smaller rocks scattered here and there. Pretty amazing to see the details in the terrain and imagine how badly the place is going to change once rain hits it. Did see a doe crossing the trail ahead of me which was great!
The Luge has a couple of new "baby-head" sections and some deeper loose gravel. It's now possible to see large sections of the trail as it winds down to Live Oak. Seemed like it's in better shape than I remember. Maybe the water drops groomed the dirt - ?
All the deep(er) braking bumps are filled with ash so keep your distance following.
Grass is growing in places and some of the burnt trees are sprouting green already.

I don't believe STT was one of the trails that was re-opened last Saturday. The list of trails in the Cleveland National Forest that did open up was relatively short.

Blackstar
San Juan
Holy Jim
Indian TT
Skyline

No signs at the gate, and the two Forest Service employees we passed didn't say a word to us.

Everyone should make sure first before heading out. STT from what I understood was to remain closed for a year to rehabitat.

This is from the latest Warrior Society news letter dated 11/19/07

1. CLEVELAND NATIONAL FOREST CLOSURE ORDER UPDATE
The part of the Cleveland National Forest affected by the fires, include the Main Divide from Black Star the Santiago Peak, the Silverado Motorway, the Harding Truck Trail, the Upper Joplin and Santiago Truck Trails and Maples Springs Road: these are the trails/roads that will be closed to the public for 1 year (until November 9th 200.

Here is the link to that news letter.

is closed. All please stop riding closed aka "Illegal" trails. We all miss them but I do not want m-bikers to get a bad rep.

I want to thank all the jackasses upfront who ride the closed areas. You do realize that there are people waiting to catch mtbrs in the closed areas to better their complaint of our existence in the hills. Sorry but thats just an idiot move to ride closed trails at this point, sign or no sign. I appreciate you caring about the rest of us.

I can see how u could think that. I saw today at the entrance to MILF park the Rangers posted the note about NO NIGHT RIDING on the furthest right side of the wooden gate where riders wouldnt see it because they would enter through the opening on the left. Not making excuses for people that should know better about park hours and what's off limits or not...it was an honest mistake

I am trying to understand why they would close the area for a year. Bikes on singletrack/fireroads seem to have nothing to do with rehabating a area. The Forest Service does not do this in other areas, in fact two weeks ago we road through a area on fire due to prescribed burns in Kaibab National Forest in Arizona....no closures. There really seems to be a dislike for our sport in So-Cal. All this accomplishes is putting more wear and stress in our already too few areas to ride. I do like So-Cal but decisions like this closure offend me and I don't really ride the Santa Ana’s much.
