Default Pugz Huckathon/newbie ride/puke alert #2

Great ride today guys, everyone did really well from what i saw. We had a nice group that started out a little shy and quiet at the parking lot, but the smack talking and joking around started as soon as we hit dirt .. I came out to hang out with some friends and go on an easy ride to let the legs take it easy for a bit..

Pugz deciding on which route to take the crew on

Father/Daughter singlespeed ride (you did great Maddie!)

this guy never ceases to surprise me... I'm in the parking lot talking to Dino and who pulls up to the lot? the infamous Dan "Robot Anchor" Snook this was his first ride back after having knee surgery earlier in the year and taking 5 months off the bike... good job on the ride dood, i saw you up front the entire time

Sam was having too much fun on the on the DH and somehow pinched flatted

after the Peter's ride, the IH crew decided to go to oaks for some extra credit.. Danny? and Brian joined me for YET another hike up chutes

Default Pugz newbie peter's canyon ride 11-11-07

Great fun and chill is what summarized this ride. We all met up at the Albertson's parking lot around 8AM and waited for everyone's arrival. I saw some familiar and new faces this morning as everyone started to gather up and prepare for the ride ahead. Neil brought Madeline this morning on the ride sporting her own little single speed. Dino Brown was present providing the necessary banter and encouragement to all the riders. All in all it was a really good chill ride, I was able to chat it up with Nam and Sam "I Can" and a few other folks on the ride as we stopped to regroup.

One notable point was watching Sam redeem himself for not cleaning one climb by cleaning "Big Red" along w/ Konadupee

Neil and Madi juicing before the riding

Our ride leader Pugz

Regrouping just before entering the trail

Top of our first climb

Neil/Madi/Ezzyride coming up the climb

Jason "springrubber" cleaning this climb way to go Jason!

What a gorgeous view who would have thought there were devastating fires near by not too long ago

Sam didnt clean it the first time so he was encouraged to try it again...

Unknown rider...she passed Sam as he attempted to do this

Second Attempt

Towards the end of the ride, Dino egged Pugz on to show how a Chumba handles a drop while he documented.

Sam, never would have cleared Big Red on my SS all by my lonesome. Thanks for providing the motivation.

I must begin by saying THANK YOU to Pugzie for setting up yet another successful ride! Truly AMAZING how far he has come!

Peter's is a fun little network of trails. Haven't ridden them for 6..7...8 months?!? Forgot how fun it was!

Pugz and I were wondering what people thought of Peter's. I am of the opinion The Fullerton Loop may be the more NEWB friendly of the two. Saw a lot of people sucking ALOT of wind today! I would be more than willing to return to Peter's. Just want to know what people thought.

Memories: 1) Nam unveiling his new bike (yes, I have pics- waiting for his OK) 2) Maddie's first ride 3) Seeing new faces 4) Running into Hugh's girlfriend on the trail 5) Watching two "FREAKS" clean BIG RED!

Nice Bike Kid

Most of the crew

Danny... What are you staring at?
Danny's response: Santiago Oaks.... Chutes.... Hucks.... Jumps... Drops....

Sorry Danny, I blew it!

How NOT to Huck!!!

Hucking 101.... Not bad for a guy whose Doctor told him to take it easy!

We did it!!! We really did it!

That was soooo fun..... That soooo sucked!

Your input on Peter's as a Newbie ride would be most appreciated!

Dude, if it wasn't for you calling me out I don't think I would have hit "Big Red". Anyway I couldn't leave a STR bretheren hangin' now could I? (especially riding the SS). Well, if it wasn't for you and the rest of the group watching us climb I think I would have curled up in a ball crying about 3/4 of the way there!
Teamwork!!!
It was great riding Peter's Canyon with new friends and especially old. Also finally got to meet the Mayor of STR !!!

I love both places, I think Peters is a bit shorter, Peters has many variations, less climbing for the newer folk. The 1st few times I did Peters, I just went around the lake, and as I got more comfortable with my bike skills added more of the second loop.

Fully in my opinion my be less forgiving, more hills, less places to shorten the route, etc.

Maybe Peters was harder to many, due to it being a new place and people didin't know how much effort to put out.

My first ride was at Peters and I thought if I can ride here I'm ready for the Loop, boy was I sucking wind my 1st ride at the Loop (actually i still suck wind everywhere I ride).

You asked,so my .02

Amen to that bandMan, cannot discount the motivation that 20 spectators provided. Thanks for not making me go it alone (it was a "friendly suggestion"--not "calling you out" )

As for Dino's question, Peter's works well as a newbie ride. There are less places to regroup compared to the Fully Loop, but both places make good venues for a newb ride.

Variety is the spice of life, and all of those cliches.

Thanks Surlygal! Peter's does indeed make for a good NEWB ride spot!
KonaDupee brought up another issue I had with today's ride- fewer regroup spots! At Fully, new riders have many places to talk with fellow members. There are also plenty of spots to ride side by side and talk. On today's ride, single file for most of the ride.

Just want the new guys to feel comfortable...

Thanks for the input!

Default my thoughts of Peter's

I really enjoyed Peter's today, it is really challenging for a beginner but nothing too complex. It can test a beginner's confidence on ascent and descent.
i did suck wind big time today, but like what i told Dino, i came to find out what i can do and cannot do.

oh and by the way, on the second round...........
I CAME, I SAW, I CONQUERED......................BIG RED!!!!!!!!!!!! along with others, and i couldn't feel my legs when i got to the top.
