Lake Poway/Mt. Woodson

The city of Poway has hired a contractor for erosion control at Lake Poway. No details on when the project will be completed but I am guessing after they get the Lake secured they will open up the park and therefor Mt. Woodson again.

Currently Lake Poway/Mt. Woodson are closed. From what I can tell the East side of Woodson is open but I think most of the trails are on the Lake Poway (West) side of the mountain.

[FONT=Arial]The first priority has been Lake Poway, which is the water source for Poway's 50,000 residents. The entire area around the Lake was burned in the Witch Creek Fire, creating an extreme erosion hazard, with the possibility of large amounts of silt and ash entering the water. Erosion control work in this area has included the use of more than 30,000 gravel bags to create check dams, in tributary streams, to catch silt and ash. Bonded fiber matrix with a native seed mix is being sprayed on the lower slopes of the burned hillsides to create a bio-filter to reduce runoff. A turbidity curtain approximately 1 mile long will be installed in the Lake to further protect the water. This work is critical for the protection of Poway's water resources.
