Default San Clemente Singletracks

Well we had another awesome ride at San Clemente today. Among the STR peeps were Genusmtbk5, Granny Ring and Scott V. We also had three other non-STR folk join us.

We had planned on doing 12-13 miles, but after 10 miles Pizza and beer sounded pretty good so we bailed a little early.

Here's the route we did.

We started off heading down "Fences Plus" which is an awesome twisty-turny singletrack.

IMG_6623.jpg
Here is ScottV and Gene on "Fences Plus" double-bridge section.

Then we climbed "Blind Lemons" and dropped "Wall Street."

IMG_6626.jpg
Stuart had a little fall on Wall Street.

IMG_6627.jpg
Here we are on "No Tools" fixing up Stuart's wounds.

IMG_6624.jpg
Here's GrannyRing and Reed on "No Tools". FYI Reed is 70+ and kicks butt on a mountain bike!

Next we headed out and did "Mustard" and then reversed course climbed a new trail (don't know the name) and dropped down "Hulley Gulley."

IMG_6629.jpg
Along the way we passed through "Auggie's Hollow". Here's GrannyRing in the hollow.

IMG_6630.jpg
King snake sighting.

Then we continued across "No Tools" eastbound and climbed "Use Your Sock" up to the fireroad. Then we headed west on the fireroad and picked up a brand new singletrack called "Qualifier."

This trail has a brand-new 24' bridge crossing.

IMG_6631.jpg
Here's Gene riding it.

IMG_6632.jpg
And then taking a closer look at it.

IMG_6633.jpg
Here's GrannyRing riding the bridge.

IMG_6635.jpg
Here's the parting group shot. Good ride gentlemen!

On the way out the parking lot heading to Pizza Port we had the good fortune of crossing paths with OMR who couldn't make the ride but had decided to drop by and see if we were done with the ride yet. His timing was perfect. He then joined us at Pizza Port for good times.

I really really want to ride this place....But there aren't any turn by turn directions. Is this place hard to figure out? Are the trails marked?

trails are not marked when we rode it we just kind of blundered about (still fun) but if we had a guided tour it would probably been more fun a lot faster than the 1.5 ride LOL

This trail is a blast when you have someone leading that knows this place like KeepsWhatHappens. This would be a hard night ride without a good guide because trails turn every which way. I'd be up to try it though. Thanks again John for another great ride.

I checked with the ranger station and they did not have maps. That was about 6 months ago so maybe I will check again.

Yes it's hard to figure out if you want a good flow of trails.. There are trail maps posted here and t here but only cover about 1/10 of the trails out there.

Best advice is to go with someone who knows the trails. They can be confusing. You probably wouldnt get lost but may waste alot of time and energy on trails that dont connect or are dead-ends.

Sorry...Can't do a night ride (or a day ride) for a while now. Working 12 hour days plus commute 7 days a week for at least the next couple weeks now.

Great ride today. San Clemente single tracks never disappoints. I agree with the others about a guide. Although you can poke your way through the trails, it's best to go with someone who knows so you get a good flow. Otherwise there will be too much backtracking and repeating routes. I don't know it as well as John, but I may post something soon.

Wow, I had no idea there was that much to ride down there. I'll make a point of joining in on the next one I can.

Whose doing all the work, bridges and such?
