Me and 2 other WS members(Ned and Treve aka Pedalboy on STR) went up the Silverado MW to tame down some of the waterbars that we previously installed on an earlier trailwork by the Warriors Society and other volunteers.
We made quick work in knocking some height off these waterbars so you don't launch off of them as the trail is still very loose and the landing could be less than desirable. What we didn't expect is to see these newly installed rails about 200 yards from reaching the bottom. You will have to stop and pick your bike up and over these rails. These aren't gates that the WS can open, so be careful! Other than that, the trail is in great shape. We wanted to go up to the top, but due to some mix up with this rookie ranger, we wasted 45 minutes trying to get him to realize that our work today was cleared through their office, it wasn't till another ranger who did know about it were we able to go in and start our hike up the trail. Here are a few pics I took and the rails that will come up fast if you don't slow down. ![]() |

Good to see they're getting serious about keeping the motos off the trails.

Were the bars put there to thwart motos from hitting MW? If so, I think it's a great idea.

Some of you who went on the guided ride down the MW know how big some of those waterbars were. I think you'll love that fact that they are now at a height that won't launch your backend up as you go over them.

Remember, there is a sign about 1 click down from the top of the Silverado Trail that reads "Silverado Trail" with an arrow pointing to the right, be sure and TURN RIGHT or you will be out of bounds and headed down the bulldozed/crater section. The right turn will lead you to singletrack that reconnects at the bottom of where that really rutted section use to be.
We didn't get a chance to get up there today to place bush and rocks so that it would be clear to all riders to turn right since the sign that says to turn wasn't understood. Remember, it is now called Silverado Trail. |

Gene - huge thanks to you and the WS for the commitment you demonstrate. And extra thanks for the heads-up about those rails before they caused a heads-up-and-over!

Hey Gene,
I was in the first group to head down Silverado on the training ride and must have missed this sign and right turn?? A bunch of us ended up trying to navigate through the crater field and I just figured that was the way to go.. Apparently I was wrong, where did we miss this sign and right hand turn.. It seems that while coming down Silverado a right hand turn would head in the wrong direction?? I hope its well marked for the VQ/CC because I have no clue where this right hand turn was that we missed.. Maybe someone can bring up some lumbar and build a ramp for those guard rails at the bottom of Silverado? ![]() Big thanks to you guys for fixing up the water bars and that nasty rut.. ErikQuote:

Hey Erik, you guys all missed the turn. It was a white sign with with an arrow pointing right. The right turn will take you to a re-route that sweeps left as it goes down a will re-connect you to the area below the craters. It's probably less than a 200 yard detour, but will get you down to the lower section below the crater field faster than if you had to go through those craters.

EDIT: Sorry, dupe idea from bevaaler above... I need to read before I post.
Warrior Society should put a big wood ramp on the moto barriers for the VQ & CC and we could have the option to jump them instead of just dismount (I know it'll never happen but it still would be fun). |

Matt(ocrider) and I went up yesterday to place brush and rocks in front of the crater section so there is no confusion on which way to go. We also wrapped cuation tape around the rails and tape on a branch ahead of the rails to give warning. Go to this thread for the pics. It is post #58
