Default Rear wheel doesn't spin freely, help?

    Hi,

I'm a newbie when it comes to bike repair/maintenance but i noticed yesterday when i was at the fully loop that my rear wheel does not spin very well. When i flip my bike upside down and spin my wheels, my front wheel will make several rotations before it gradually comes to a stop, however the rear wheel will only make maybe 4-5 rotations and then stops.

what should be some of the first things i check to fix this problem?

    btw, i don't believe it's brakes related.
    thanks.

No disrespect, but you are spinning it in the normal direction and not backwards where it spins the cranks right?

    none taken,

yes i'm spinning it in the normal direction. I'll have to check my brakes again but i am fairly certain that's not what it is.

as far as what hub, i honestly don't know. whatever the 2008 specialized FsrXc expert comes with.

If the crank turns when spinning in the normal direction, it's the freehub binding.

Also take the wheel out and spin it in your hands, holding the axle with both hands. You can feel if the bearings are tight when the axle wants to turn. Also lube any rubber seals around the axle.

If you have regular bearings rather than sealed chances are your hub could be to tight. If you don't have the right tools to loosen it up a little I'd check with your LBS or maybe somebody could meet at the loop to take a look
