Default AIDS Lifecycle Anyone?

Anyone doing, thinking about doing, or could be talked into doing the AIDS Lifecycle?

The event starts in SF on June 1st, 2008 and finished in LA on June 7th, 2008. The ride is 545 miles. It seems as if the event is pretty well run, they provide tents, food, SAG support, entertainment, and hot showers.

More info: http://www.aidslifecycle.org

I know it is far off but I am thinking about doing the ride. I have wanted to ride from SF to LA and this would be a pretty easy way to do it without much planning.

Now would be a good time to start planning it. I think that's when I'm scheduled for my tour.

So AIDS ride is out. I hear the route doesn't go through Big Sur. I my mind that is the best section of the ride. Next...

I did the 1st and 2nd aidsride back in da day. 1994/95.
They never went through Big Sur back then either. To dangerous with RV's vs. many inexperienced cyclists.
Still, it was a great ride and I heard it still is. For a good cause too.

You should just do it solo. It would involve a bit of planning, but that's half the fun.

And you're right, Big Sur would be the highlight of the ride.

My buddies did LA - Monterey non-stop last year. They said going through Big Sur at 1:00am was almost magical.

Yeah, screw all of that raising money for a good cause nonsense.

Just do it! I have yet to find one person who said it wasn't one of the most amazing experiences they've had. I'm already signed up and just got back from the training kickoff ride in GP. Great group of people there.

Looks like the medical advancements are finally solving this or at least somewhat of a remedy.

There is medication now that stops the HIV virus from multipling, thus stopping the virus. Is it a cure? No, but it can now let people live a long and normal life.

Which is what this ride if for. The money goes to providing meds and care for people living with HIV/AIDS, as well as for testing services and education.

I agree the ride helps a great cause. It just doesn't happen to be what I'm looking for. I have very limited time each year to try and do something like this. If I'm going to take the time I want to make sure it's right for me.
