Default LEW Pro VT-1 Wheels: 880g/Pair, $8,900

This is fairly old news, but I don't think I have seen them posted here before. The ultimate road wheel, by far. 880 grams means that these wheels weight less than 2lbs for the pair. Unreal. Word on the street is that they're not only light, but very stiff, too.

-880 Grams per pair.
-4 Year Warranty
-Boron/Carbon Construction

That's freekin unbelieveable. I see a sub 12 pound bike in the near future.

My road bike is now up to 19 pounds. I've got to quit adding stuff.

What the hell are you adding? Haha.

The craziest part is a 4 year warranty on wheels that weight less than 1lb each. Crazy.

I'm sure that as technology progresses, they'll have a pair of MTB wheels just as light and 10x as strong.

By then, Road wheels will probably weight 100g/pr or something absurd... technology is crazy.

They must have gone on sale because they're only $5995 for a set.

The clinchers (tubes required) are scheduled to be released in December with no word on price. They're supposed to be 970 grams for the set.

I think that $6k is the starting price. If you want ceramic bearings, a 4 year Warranty, balancing, skewers, etc., the price jumps up $3k.

I hope I'm able to take them for a test ride someday.

Exactly...there's some customizing you can do.

If you're a big boy, you add $500 for wheels that support up to 250lbs. The regular wheels support up to 185lbs.

Going with a Campy hub cassette adds 40 grams and $100.

Going with Ceramic Bearings drops 10 grams and adds $1000.

There's a bunch of other nit-noid stuff.

I was contemplating the Lew Wheels in my next build of a Tarmac SL2 or a Prince Carbon. They were only offered in a Tubular wheelset. I'm interested in seeing the clinchers when they come out in December.

Sometime in the near future, I'm planning on testing out the wheels in conjunction with their Adventure Ride Package in Las Vegas (Red Rock).

There's a $560 weekend package and a $1280 weekend package. The more expensive one gets you into a better room and gives you a spa treatment that might actually be pretty cool.

It's just starting to cool down in Vegas and the riding around the Red Rock area (both road and mountain) is pretty good. Besides, it's Vegas!!!

If you build an '08 Prince with LEW's you'll be the man. Actualy, the SL2 is an incredible bike, too, but there's something about the Prince.

Let me know what you find out about the Lew Clinchers, I'm curious to know what they're going to look like/cost. If they also come with a 4 year warranty, you've really got nothing to lose.

I kind of laughed at the ceramic bearing upgrade. I'm not too keen on the claimed increases in speed due to decreased friction. I know they're much better in terms of wear and corrosion, but for me, $1000 to drop 10 grams per wheelset is not exactly cost effective. I don't care what the benefits are. I don't have an unlimited cycling budget...

And you're right...I've been lusting after the Prince Carbon after I first saw it in a Bicycling Magazine ad. There's just something about having something that's "exotic" over something that's more commonly available, even if the "common" bike has the same or better performance.

A Corvette Z06 is a highly capable machine, but a Ferrari 460 Modena stirs emotion...

Sad but true. Most sponsored guys are running Zipps these days, so you don't really see these on any of their bikes, either.

I saw a guy at the Rose Bowl the other day riding Lightweights, which are around $5k... I don't get doing a sketchy ass training ride in race day wheels (unless you're made of money, in that case, I envy)
