Default Cross Season is upon us!!

Wondering if there are any CX folk on the board?

I was thinking of putting together a couple Sunday "practice" sessions for anyone that was interested in trying it out, learning why you get off of a perfectly good bike at full speed..on purpose! or running- yuck!- with your bike or dusting off the cx rig for the upcoming season!

The Prestige series, here is the link:
http://www.socalcross.org/
is offering a free clinic on the 16th of Sept- not sure where yet- and then another free clinic on the 28th of Sept in Fullerton the day before the first race of the season.

I have got a few sets of barricades so all we need is a park and some cones to set up a mock course. If you have never tried it, it is a blast! I am by no means a pro but love cross and helped coach it back in the midwest where we raced in the snow, true suffering there!

If anyone is interested post up here or shot me a pm...Justin, Lee?? Kurt with RMB? and lets hook up!

On a side note, a "cross" bike is not required, recommended as you progress though, so mountain bikes sans bar ends are welcome at all the races and its a easy way to see if its worth investing in!

More Cow Bell Please!!

I'm in!

Some will need to video tape this, because I'm sure I'll contribute toward some funny footage.

Nam, I'm sure you'll want a CX bike will be in your stable soon. Until then, just use your singlespeed...or borrow that sexy green Surly you had on Saturday.

I'm still waiting for a few little odds and ends for mine before it gets going. Oh, that reminds me, how long would it take for you to get that IRD extended drop hanger?

Ordered it today, will be here Thurday. I had to go direct from IRD.
Nam will have a blast on the Surly and I'll make sure to bring a camera for all the "action" plus I am sure my wife and daughter will be there to offer "constructive" criticism!

Oh hey, look at the link for Team Bearclaw on the SoCalCross page.

Follow the link for the Monday Night Happy hour deal. I'll be brining food for everyone, it should be fun. Team Bearclaw will be there in full effect.

No problem. All of us should get together sometime. This will be my first year racing cross, but our team has some pretty fast guys in the pro class.

Hey Neil, what's a good set of shoes for CX?

Maybe I can get some CX tires for my surly LHT and turn it into a cross bike.

I did a few CX races last year and I had a lot of fun.
I planning to do some of the Prestige races as well as some of the Urban CX.
I definitely would be interested in some practice sessions. I need to work on some of the specific CX techniques, such as dismounts, remounts, barriers, etc.
Please, keep me posted.

Hey Pilas,

That is exactly the plan for getting this started..practice, practice, practice!
I can't make the Pasendena practices this year so I thought might as well bring it over to this side of town.
I was hoping for something this weekend....any interest over the holiday weekend or do we try for a weeknight?
Let me know what you guys think will work best.

Hello Bob Billy,

a shoe you can run in and if you want to try some CX tires I got a few different ones hanging in the garage you can try, let me know!

I can't make it this weekend.

For tires, I have the Specialized Houffalize tires (32 mm). Are those OK? I haven't seen any mention of those on any CX forums.

Neil,

I'm very interested in this. When and where and what do we need to wear/bring? I'm buying my touring bike in November, and I was hoping I could use it for both. It's a Kona Sutra. What do you think?

Mike, I've read some bad reviews on the Sutra for touring duties. And disc brakes aren't allowed in CX races(I'm pretty sure)

Read this post on BF.

http://bikeforums.net/showthread.php...ighlight=sutra

You may want to consider the Bianchi Volpe or the Surly Cross Check.

Another great bike is the Rocky Mountain Sherpa 30.

It uses STI Brifters, the other two I recommended use bar con shifters. Both have their advantages/disadvantages. The bar end shifters are more reliable. The Brifters are quicker and easier to use.

If you're considering the Long Haul Trucker from Surly, keep in mind the smaller sizes use 26" wheels. Not sure if those are allowed in CX races.
