Default SRAM RED Gruppo *PICTURES*

The latest and greatest from SRAM. Very attractive and VERY light. Word on the street is sub-2000 grams for the entire group. It's gonna be pricey, but I would imagine it's well worth it.

Enjoy!

OMG I can't believe the looks of that. I'm sold. I wonder how it'd look on a new Pinarello Carbon Prince frame?

It would look awesome, but the style police would kill you for not running a full Campy Gruppo.

What about running full Dura-Ace on the Pinarello Prince? Is that blasphemous?

True, I'd be labeled as wannabe Euro-trash. You don't mix Italian with American componets. Now if I was to get the 2008 S-works Roubaix, then I'd have to have the Sram Red.

My gawd, I can feel my checcking account shrinking and I haven't even bought a single thing yet.

Carbon Prince....no, not really, Regular Pinarello Prince would be just fine with just Ultegra.

Big difference between those two.

Sorry...I was referring to the Carbon.

I'll even do one better by getting full Dura-Ace AND the Campy Bora Ultra wheels with a Shimano freehub. Then I'll go riding through Italy and stop at all the roadie hangouts to see what happens.

According to the Euro Roadie Rules, full Campy Gruppo is required.

As for the Sram Red stuff, I hear the rear casette is CNC's from a solid piece of steel. If that is true, it's going to be incredible.

Yet the Euros get spanked by americans on american made frames with japanese components... so F the euro rules!!!

Yes thats true... the cassette will be machined from a solid piece of stock.... but dont think it will be steel.... maybe Ti or Alu....

The new cassette relies on Open Glide shifting technology, but its steel construction is the catchy story. The larger eight cogs of cassette are milled and machined out of a single solid piece of steel. The inside is milled away except for the smallest cog, which is splined. The back of the cassette has a pressed on aluminum cover, which is also splined and the production version will have a sleeve that connects the two pieces so they don't gall an aluminum hub's cassette body. This leaves the inside of the cassette completely hollow and brings the weight down to around 160-grams, according to Ritzler. The outside of the cassette is completely CNC machined. Each tooth of each cog is machined out of the same piece of steel. So instead of paying for exotic materials, you're paying for the machining time it takes to make this component.

It will be interesting to see how this item does in production and in the field, though SRAM says that the whole system has been ridden hard already and it's fared quite well. Zellmann was quick to point out that the production version will be quite a bit sharper than the prototype they were showing.
