38.15 Miles
2:31:19 3445 ft of climbing ![]() ![]() This was almost my typical morning ride at Lytle Creek. The roads were still being worked on so there was gravel everywhere. Made for a few miles of rough riding. There was one lane closed so on the way back down, traffic had to wait for a "Follow Me" truck. One of the flaggers yelled at me to wait because I was gonna roll on through. I was just going to ride on the shoulder. Anyway, when it was clear I took off and was going down the road faster than the traffic. Eventually, the "follow me" truck and the line of traffic catch up to me and I tuck in behind the truck to take advantage of the draft. It was welcome break because I got to cruise along at 35mph. Towards the end of the construction zone I zoned into my little fantasy world and pretended I was in the TDF waiting for the final moment to sprint to the finish line. I see an opening and pull out of the draft. I'm sprinting for all that I was worth. I pass the truck and the driver is yelling "GO! GO! GO!" It was an all out effort and my legs were burning. As I pass the flagger at the "finish line" he's smiling and giving me the thumbs up. I take a quick glance down to see my speed and I'm going 41mph. I won. |
