Default training tire

I need a suggestion for a good training tire. I have a michelin pro race 2 on there right now and its got a bunch of small cuts in it already and I haven't even had it that long! Its just about time to retire it so I need a good tire that will last for a long time. I'm talking about like 1,000s of miles (if there are any that will last that long).

How many miles a week are you riding?

I'm running Continental Grand Prix 4000s. First time running them but I've heard they'll go for 2500. Had a set of Schwalbe Stelvios that were done after 700 miles.

I've been running Specialized Armadillo - Blackwalls for training and for doubles. The rear usually lasts about 2-3,000 miles. Fairly hard compound but roll very fast. I've not flatted one in over 3 years. Slightly heavier but the lower rolling resistance seems to negate the weight penalty. You can get them with or without a tread pattern. Cornering is very good despite the harder compound. No problem at all down the canyons at even full race speed. If you plan to race I'd do a couple rides with your race tires prior to the event as race tires are usually more supple.

And did I mention - no flats!

I inspected my tire and found all the cuts were caused by some peices of metal which decided to jump into my tire. I only had it for probably 3 or 4 hundred miles! Stupid roads that are not clean.

I use the continental ultra gatorskin. The only time I usually have to change them is when I start running out of rubber.
