Default Roadie for a really tall dude

Hi Folks --

One of the Producers where I work (Walt Disney Animation Studios in Burbank), is a really tall guy -- 6'6" with a 36" inseam (!!). Yeah, he's big.

He's looking for a roadie, but is worried that he will need something in excess of 65cm, and that it will be hard to find something in a shop that will fit him. Does anyone know of shops that might carry bikes for Big and Tall guys?

I've been looking online and have found some places that will do custom builds, so he might go that route if there's none available in stores anywhere -- I found GVH in Coos Bay, OR; T.E.T. Cycles in Iowa; Heron Bicycles out of Illinois; and, Strong Frames of Montana. Anyone know of others that are worth looking into?

Roy put his budget at $2500, so if I can find a frame and fork for $1250, he can go Ultegra and hit his mark, I would think.

Thanks for any guidance.

Try PM'ing Padre. That dude is big and I think he rides road a lot. He'd probably have some good ideas regarding frames.

A roadie I know who is 6'5" had a Seven Cycles built to fit his frame. Those are SWEET bikes but I think they came up with the name based on how many thousands it takes just to buy a frame. In other words, way off your budget.

With his three foot inseam, I am thinking he's gonna be on a 64 or even larger! Thanks, tho.

I took a look at the Tarmac -- nice ride. I passed the info along. Thanks, mm.

Check out Incycle Pasadena, seems like it should be close enough, at least to your work. I just called the owner, and although he is usually at the San Dimas store, he said they have a pretty good selection of road bikes in Pasadena. He's going to get back to me tomorrow about what size frames they have available, I'll keep you posted.

Zinn would be the absolute best (IMO) for a tall rider, but it may not(probably not) will be within his budget.

My road bike is big..really big, but I've pedaled a 61 Specialized around and I own a Specialized Langster and it fits wonderfully. I'm also 6'6 with a 39.2" measurement from pedal spindle to top of saddle. Your boss shouldn't have a problem with a big Specy. Call the Path for a tester.

Check out Curtlo. I was killing time a while back researching this brand. Great prices for custom bikes, actually on par with mass production bikes. He will be able to get you a custom steel bike with Ultegra within budget. Not sure but that will be hard with most custom places like Seven I think.

Curtlo is good, but he takes forever. Plus, I don't think custom is totally neccessary until you hit 6'8 or so.
