Default Any Roadies in Irvine?

Anybody? I've already ridden with the Bike Club of Irvine and plan to ride this evening with Orange County Rebel Riders.

I would like to put together another riding group in and around Irvine. Anybody interested?

Just curious.
I've rode with both of these groups and consider them a great bunch of people, any reason why you are starting up a new ride?

I was riding road once a week and I'm in Irvine. But haven't ridden for about a month. The weather's been too good! How fast are you OKPatrick? Hate to make you wait. I was averaging about 15.5mph when I would do my long ride. Route was usually from my place up Jamboree to Santiago Canyon Rd to Cook's back. Maybe circling back and riding up Bake or doing parts of Tustin on Newport Blvd.

What pace do the OC RR or the BCI keep for their after work rides? What's the route? Lastly, are they running pace lines? Because, I usually ride solo so I'm not used to riding in a pack/peleton riding. But I'm down with learning.

Thanks,

Carl

I'm also in Irvine, in the University Park area (University and Yale). About once a week, I do a relatively flat 2-3 hour road ride, for endurance maintenance. I wouldn't mind some company on those, as they tend to be pretty boring.
Let me know if anybody gets something together.

I used to do a lot of rides with the OC Rebel Riders. They're a really cool group to ride with. I will probably join them more this summer, as my gf just got a road bike, and it'll be a good group for her while allowing me to ride with some of the faster guys.

Pho, I don't think I'm that fast either so I don't think I will be too fast for you. I really just started up and have no cyclometer to figure out what my average speed is. I'm thinking I might do the Thurs evening ride with OCRR, but when I rode with BCI, I thought some of the guys were kinda sloow. hahah..

If there is one thing I learned its never make fun of more experienced people. I recall when I was a kid and road alot of road the group I was with was mostly younger. We would meet up with other groups and on occasion some of those groups would be quite a bit older. Some guys in my group would snicker until they were passed as the rides got more challenging by the older groups. Its kinda like the 5K races I have been doing, the 34-39yr class is always producing the top finishers. The young kids bolt off the line and always get caught Experience pays off...

Hey Mike, good luck on the Bear. I love that century. I have done it the last couple of years, and I'm kind of bummed that I have to miss it this year. I'm doing the Traverse instead.
Wacht out for the speed limit coming down the back side of Onyx!

I really like the fact that you consider the 34-39yr class the old guys. Geeeeeeso! You might as well bury me now.

Hey OkPat,

I don't think I'm that slow either. There's some reasonably long hills on my route and definitely some rolling hills so climbing those at 10mph will definitely kill your average. To be honest, it's not like I'm getting passed by everyone and their grandma out there. I just don't ride road in groups at all so I have no frame of reference. Can't make it thurs, but maybe next week sometime after work.

Same thing at XC races. I raced on my 30th b-day at Bonelli. If I was a day younger that day and in the 22-29 class I would have finished 2-3 spots higher. 30-39 was much faster. More years of training under their belts for the "experienced guys".

I could be wrong, but I detected some sarcasm in his original post.

Speaking of the ride around the bear, I wish I could join in. It's just not in the cards right now.
