Default LB to SD - Monday June 18th

I will be attending a conference for work in San Diego the week of June 18th. I plan to ride from downtown Long Beach to San Diego Monday, June 18th.

I did this ride a few weeks ago by myself and it was awesome. The plan is for S54MCoupe, John (another SVG mountain/road biker), and me to take transit from Pasadena to downtown Long Beach. We should be in LB about 6:45AM - 7:00AM.

Last time I did the ride it took me 6.5 hours to get to the train station in SD. Jesse and John will be taking the train back to Union Station. There is a 3:00PM and either 4:00PM or 4:30PM train from SD that will take bikes. When looking at the schedule make sure to see if the train has a baggage car.

If anyone else wants to hook up on this ride post here. I will be out of the country starting May 28th - June 12th. When I return I will check back on this thread.

I'll be doing the Grand Tour Triple that day. 300 miles of roadie bliss.

I might ride home rather than catch the train, or at least ride up to San Clemente and catch a train from there (there is a station there, right?)

You'll have to look at the train schedule to be sure but if memory serves me correct the next station with baggage service is Oceanside. After that I'm not sure. Dude you should just turn it around and ride back to Long Beach. It's light until 8:30PM.

You should be able to do it if John and I don't slow you down too much.

Why not take the money for the train and rent a room then just ride back the next day?

Brian when are you leaving for China?

That might work, too.

Are you excited about the 300?

I'm trying not to think about it, but Ive started training in ernest. Just need to pick up the mileage some. Yesterday's ride was 98 miles with close to 10K in climbing, but the ride time was pretty long. We did have a few extended breaks waiting for people, plus I went up East Fork intentionally slow to save my knees. It worked, my knees are far bless sore then usual and they were some what sore from the day before.

Hello from Shanghai. RAAM, the ride is about 108 miles. I did it a few weeks ago by myself. It is a great ride. I have been off my bike for almost two weeks now while traveling around China. I actually dreamed about the ride to SD last night. Talk about withdrawls. There are people riding their bikes all over here but the drivers are way to crazy for me to rent a bike.

Mike,

I left for China on the 28th. We return on the 12th. With all the polution in Beijing my lungs were killing me. I wore a bandana over my mouth on the way to the airport the polution was hurting my lungs so badly. Shanghai is not as bad. Much better city.

I got fitted for a custom made suit and sport coat today, dark gray pin stripe for the suit and light brown corduroy for the sport coat. $120 for both and could have bargined that down but didn't care to expend the energy.

Metro Link Trail Staion in Oceanside and San Clemente (North Beach area, behind Ole Hansons). Amtrac Train (one a day) goes all the way to San Diego.

Wave to me when you go by my house, Ledroit and PCH Laguna Beach.

Right on, I am just gonna go to SD and head back north to Irvine, where a friend lives. I'll probably catch a lift home from there.

So who's in for this ride? I know Jesse is going, anyone else?

We're planning on getting on the metro in Pasadena at 5:00AM, which should put us down in Long Beach about 6:30AM - 6:45AM.
