My wife were just up there in March and we saw a couple guys doing this stuff (the skidding and riding backwards) over by the Embarcadero. It was pretty crowded and this guy even skidding into somebody at one point, or nearly so, I forget. Still, it was pretty impressive.

Neat video. Makes me miss the City, too. Nice place to visit.

Spun around on a fixie for the first time last weekend at Fontana. I won't be getting one anytime soon!

Nice find Nam. Great camera angles and some talented riders to boot. The skidding is also how they brake. Like JimN I won't be on a fixie anytime soon although I do admire their talent and skill.

I second that! I ride a fixie on the road and when I was first learning to skid, I hadn't taken into consideration that the lockring on the cog might need tightened every once in a while. Coming to a stop at a red light, I stripped the hub and breezed right through.

Is it much different than a coaster brake? I used to ride a BMX bike back in the dizzay with a coaster brake. We used to practice to see who could make the longest skid mark on the neighbors' driveways.

its way different gurp remember when you stop pedaling the cranks keep going so if you lock the rear wheel then stop you have to keep moving with the cranks

THAT is scary. Did you run a front brake at the time?

It's not too bad if you hop your rear wheel up and commit to locking the your legs up, haha.

Damn! More skills than me that's for sure. I guess that's why I run front AND rear brakes.

Nope, but I do now. It's made me lazy.

Cool video. But the amount of guts to ride around H2's and taxi's. I will hide on the trail. I hear life on the road is unforgiving.

I agree, I definitely admire their skills and talent. That being said, I think the guy's toothless smiles says it all. It's just a matter of time before all that city riding and trick riding gets you smacked by a car or the curb. And call me a prude, but are helmets not hip enough for these guys?

PS: And I've got a SS city cruiser with two rear wheels, one fixed and one freewheel. After going back and forth between the two, I decided the fixie was just an accident waiting to happen. I'd rather take chances on the trail, where the consequences aren't the same (except for Miles I just signed on to this board, but some of you may know me.
