Did the BA Saturday. It was my first road event after having done several MTB events, including Vision Quest earlier this year. This is a really great event and course, that I definitely recommend. The support was first rate, nice group of riders (definitely in tending toward my more "mature" age), and the course is scenic, challeging (going up) and exhilarating (going down). The course is 114 miles with 12,000 feet of climbing and a peak altitude of 8400 feet. A guy dressed as the Grim Reaper was at the top to greet everyone. Pretty fun.
It was much easier for me than VQ due to having four rest stops instead of two and having much easier/flexible start & cutoff times. Bought the souvenir jersey with the Grim Reaper. Very cool. Breathless Agony Century Jersey

You raise a very good point - VQ start time is pretty freakin nuts, Warriors Society need to get their hands in their pockets and spend some green on making the start time and finish time a bit more in keeping with normal peoples lives. Rant over

It ahs got nothing to do with spending money. When you have riders that take 10 hrs to complete the ride, we have to ensure that all the riders and support staff are off the mountain before the sun goes down. To start at 7 or 8am would make this impossible. Besides.....it is one day a year. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Thanks for the props everyone. I am thinking about the King of the Mountain series for next year, now that I know what this kind of event is like. It is BA plus two other similar events- Mulholland Challenge and the Hearbreak 100. Not sure about all of that plus VQ in a 4 month span, though...
As far as pics, I didn't take any, but hopefully there will be some posted shortly. It is a really nice course for most of it- Glen Oak (apple country) then Hwy 38. As far as sign-ups, I think I was about 3-4 days after it opened. I actually tried to sign up exactly when it was supposed to open, but it didn't work. Then I had to leave town and forgot about it for a couple of days. When I remembered it was already half full. So definitely hit it on day 1. With the King of the Mountain thing, it is a lot more popular than it used to be from what I hear.
