Default First double century question

I was thinking about doing the Davis (Calif.) double century. They say it's good for a first timer. What do y'all think?...PainFreak?

I haven't ridden 200 miles yet, but take it for what it is: you're riding your bike. Nobody is gonna make you stop, so just keep pedaling and having fun. I've done some long rides with enough climbing to make a flat 200 seem tame, it's all in your head. Have fun, meet people, and keep your legs moving.

Thanks for the encouraging words S54MCoupe. I know what you mean about climbing for miles in my middle ring on my Mtn bike. Now I want to try it on my road bike.

Just go for it, the only thing that would stop you from finishing is your mind. If you're hellbent on making it to the end, you'll do it.

What is the furthest you've ever ridden?

Davis has some climbing, but it is my favorite double. The best part is that the last 70 miles is either downhill or flat. The scenery is just great and the venue really has a great vibe to it. Lots of people do this one.

If you train for it, and don't push to hard you can do it. The trick is all about pacing. I think the year I did this one '05, there were quite a few that didn't finish or asked for help and got sagged in some, but like I said, if you've trained you can do it.
