Default Hemet Century/Double Century

I'm thinking of doing the Century. But, Pain Freak and his riding partners are doing the double. Anyone else interested in riding the Century?

I'm interested but can't commit right now. The weekend before I'm doing trail work with CORBA, which means yet another weekend I'm not riding dirt. Although this ride would keep me on track for a century a month. I will prolly know the weekend before. Looks like the only other option for a local century is the Tour de Orange County on the 21st. Anyone else know of something else?

I'd be interested in the Tour de Orange, I think.

Up until this past Sunday I've been excited about trying my first century at the tour of orange county, but now I'm bummed because I can't seem to find a saddle that will allow me to ride much more than a couple of hours.

I know we are all built differently, but what are some of the saddles that you guys have had good luck with?

After spending over 12 hours in the saddle there is no such thing as comfort. What I found is to stay away from the heavily padded saddles as they tend to cut circulation. They are more flexible and will push against viens that carry blood where a less padded saddle won't do this. You see more and more people doing the longer rides with no padding at all. Brooke saddles are the "in" saddle to be sporting these days.

I went with a Specialize saddle. Two centuries down and only minimal discomfort towards the end.

That looks a lot like my saddle, too. I like it.

Has my thread been hijacked and did I just take part in the hijacking?

Getting things back on track. Looks like I will most likely be doing the century in Hemet. I will confirm tonight with my wife and register this week.

I'm in. Inked for the double.

If you're interested we are going to do another 140+ mile ride this weekend.

Sorry PF. My weekend will be consumed by CORBA trail maintenance on Saturday, Mark Ryden art exhibit and family dinner on Sunday.

Question about the double, if by the grace of God I am still feeling strong after the century, is the course laid out in a way that I can attempt the double but back out when I start to die?

Sorry more questions:
1) Gurp, are you planning on starting with Mike?
2) Gurp, are you planning on riding with Mike for the first century?
2) Gurp and Mike, when do you plan to start? I see one can start as early as 4:00AM. Damn that is early? I just got nice light LED lights for my bike so I can bring those if we are doing a pre-dawn start.

This question is probably better answered by Mike, but I'll go ahead and guess... Yeah, I think you can. I know there's no way I can do 200 miles, though, at this point, so I'm only going to plan on the Century.

If I get to ride it, I was thinking of doing the second loop and starting around 9am. I figure that Mike and his mutant friends will probably do the double in 12-14 hours. I imagine I'll take 6-7 hours to do the single. So, if I start the second loop, which is supposedly more challenging, I might finish just a little ahead of them.

Now I see on my calender that my wife has an all day event on the 14th. So, if I'm going to ride this Century, I'm going to need a babysitter. Sigh. I'll see what I can do.

So gurp, are you doing the ride this weekend?

I'm planning on meeting PF and the other riders for the 4:30AM start. I'm going to do the first loop and see if I'm up for any more punishment.

We didn't get a room at the Motel 6, so we have decided to drive out in the morning (2am). Brent is thinking we should be back at the motel after the first century sometime around 10:30 to 11. Why don't you guys jump in then? We have a few others going at this time.

Forecast calls for mostly sunny/wind for Sunday. Given the wind in Pasadena today I suspect Saturday might be pretty windy as well. I suspect an early start might be better than a later start wind wise. The 4:30 AM start is sounding better.

You guys leaving from Fontuckey at 2:00AM? That gets you to Hemet about 3:00 AM. You still shooting for a 4:30 AM start? I was thinking about leaving Pasadena at 2:30AM.

I'm thinking about taking a Tylenol PM at like 3:30 - 4:00 on Friday to get some sleep before getting up again at 2:00 AM.
