Default any tri geeks/swimmers?

a question: would anyone be interested in a swimming/tri program in the lake forrest/el toro area? this would be skewed more twoards a masters swim program (age 18+).

we are based on a competitive age group (ages from about 5 to 1 United States Swimming program that does private lessons, and we're looking to expand, but we want to gauge interest from the non-school crowd

At the moment, the nearest Masters programs are at UCI, NOVA (Irvine, also a tri program) and Mission.

I only know 2 people in that area and they swim with SOKA Master's. I think serious swimmers would make the trek to NOVA just based on their reputation alone.

I couldn't find a good Master's program when I lived in Yorba Linda; it was either the East Lake Eagle Rays or swim with F.A.S.T. at the Janet Evans complex.

Let me know your tentative details; I'll pass it around to my racer buddies and see who's interested.

I swam at UCI and coached Masters there for about 15 years. Have been out of the pool awhile and would like to back to it. I'd most likely go back to UCI, but would like to be closer. I live in LF.
I tried at El Toro thru the Rec Program lap swim registration, but it was a joke. The two or three of us that would show were a total afterthought - even though we were spending $.
They'd only put in every other lane line or so and then some slow ass nimrod would show up, disrupt my set and not understand circle swimming and weave all over two o three lanes (see above lane line problem). The rarely had a visible clock as well. When there are two in a lane, most people want to swim sides. I don't: 30 plus years of swimming, I circle in the bathtub. Then a third shows up and everyone's gotta stop to explain it all over again.
If something happens locally, I'd be really interested.

I might be interested. Swam and did polo in high school. Have been swimming at the LA Fitness in Lake Forest for a couple months as I try go get back in shape after breaking a leg. Swimming there though, I have to put up with the above mentioned folks that are slow, weave, don't know circle patterns, etc. I also don't believe they have a timing clock, at least not one that I have seen.

Rumpled: the rec program is a joke, which is one of the main reasons that we're looking to start a USMS program @ El Toro. hey- what years did you swim @ UCI? I was there for about the last 4 years of Lucy's career. when she left, I went back to NOVA.

Zippy: I'll send/post more info when I get it. if it helps, the head coach (my wife), myself and one other coach all have swam at NOVAs and I even coached there for a few years.

we would definitely be cheaper than NOVA, UCI, FAST, Mission, etc, and we definitely don't have the parking nazi issues that UCI has

trust me, i get it- i swim at the irvine LA Fitness and it's nuts. circle pattern just doesnt work there, and then you have to plan your swims around the "aqua class" a.k.a. round people bouncing in the water.

Zippy: would you happen to be able to send me a few links to tri related message boards?

No, I won't try multisport.oc as that's run by the NOVA Masters coach, Mike Collins.

slow
I swam at UCI '83-87
Coached and swam UCI Masters '85 to about 2000 when the new pool was built.
Subbed a little after Lucy showed up ( I never liked her even before I met her) but the situation all around was kinda bad for me at the time (Lucy and how UCI treated me and the program with the new pool construction etc)

I need to get my fat arse back in the pool; it's the only way I ever really lose weight.

ah, so before me- I swam at UCI on the team from 2000 to 2005 and masters from 2005 until Lucy left.

I agree- it's the only way i lose weight as well. I've got to get back below 200 lbs.

When I was doing more triathlons, I swam in a master's program. I still swim a few times a week on my own, so I would be interested for sure!

I'm not on any of the tri forums. Consider contacting the local tri clubs and see what they'd like from a Master's program. Regardless of what region they cater to, people tend to live all over So Cal.

Orange County Tri Club (Mike Collins might have this one sewn up, though)
LA TriClub
Inland Inferno Tri Club

Happy to pass around the details when you get things ironed out.

And LA tri club is huge....guys/girls in that who live all over socal. even SD tri club, there are people who are in that in OC, prob mostly south OC but still. Also, college tri clubs like UCI, CSULB, CSUF etc who may not want to swim at school or live far from campus, etc.

one nice thing- we have an "in" with CSULB- one of our team's existing coaches goes there and is on the tri team.

thanks for the help!

Collins is a friend/former coach, so I guess I'd better check before stepping on toes I know he's got multisport OC already.

the program is still in its infancy, but with the interest we've been getting, it's likely to happen sooner than later.

By "El Toro" do you mean the high school? I live three blocks from the pool (easy walk to get there) and would be interested in some kind of swimming program.
