Default Recommend to me some lycra shorts.

I've been gettin back on my road bike a bit more lately. I've got a couple of shorts that are okay.
Two things I'm looking for in new shorts. A really nice chamois and short inseam. I've got short legs and a big waist. I'll need XL/L , I've got a 36" waist. My current shorts go down to the knee and bend over the top. Unless I role them under, they really bug me. The aren't falling down. The inseam is just too long for my stumpy legs.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Not sure about the chamois, but the inseam length on these would be fabulous!

If you have a Performance around you, they have a good version of bibs - Performance Ultra ($75). I used to wear lycra shorts but changed over to bibs a year or so ago. Do yourself a favor, go with bibs. You'll be happier.

PI's are good, I've been using Descente's as well as a couple of pairs of Castelli's for few months. All have been nice. The Specialized Pro RBX line is my current choice de jour. The Descente's have a shorter leg than the others which might suit your issues with fit.

Velowear.com. I am an XXL with a 42" waist, 29" inseam. The XXL shorts do go slightly past my knee, but not enough to bother. I'm sure the inseam is shorter on an XL, but their website lists all the stats you need to buy the best fitting shorts. Btw, if you got any bit of a gut, go with bibs. They're worlds more comfortable.

I have never used "bike shorts" before, picked these up on sale. Any ride over 30 I use them, I have no complaints. If I rode longer on the MTB I'd get another pair and wear under my baggies like I do on the road. I have been riding with no padding on the MTB, but I haven't done any epic rides.

Big gut... lycra... cold shiver just went down my spine and I'm no longer hungry.

Go with bibs absolutely. If you're going to wear lycra at least be comfortable doing it. There is no way to be comfortable in regular shorts.

As for the original question, I don't have a good answer for you. The shortest inseam shorts are triathlon shorts (like http://www.onlinefitness.com/product.cfm?pr=4006&ref=f) but tri shorts have some of the worst chamois in 'em because they're meant for running AND cycling. The best chamois is definitely in the Pearl Izumi Pro short with the Attack being a close second, but I think you'll find they're too long.

I have these and I love them. They are a bit expensive but well worth the money.

I will pretty much only buy bibs now. I just used my new Ibex Arrivee wool bib this weekend at the 12 hour in Temecula. Excellent bibs. No monkey butt at all. Could possibly get a bit warm on a hot day, time will tell.

I have read lots of posts on this subject and here are the general thoughts I've seen.
>$200 Assos F1
$100-$200 Louis Garneau, Pearl Izumi Ultra Slice, which is now the PRO maybe, some Sugio models, Voler Elite DX or Prestige, Boure Elite
<$100 Performance Ultra, DeMarchi Race Bib ($44 on Bike Nashbar right now)

Which one is the best? That's up to you.

You could check out Incycle in san dimas, also check out coats cyclery in pomona off of town and arrow hwy. I got 2 capo jersys there for $25 bucks each. they always have sales at both places. like the others said try for a bib they are much nicer and yah.

You could also check out primalwear.com they have a good rep so I hear. You can also google discount coupons codes rather easily.

Until I started using Team Sho-Air shorts, I was having to double up with gel and padded shorts. My tushie was sensitive

Methinks I wear Xl or XXL. At 6'0", I know my legs are stumpy with a 30.25 inseam. (see, I had to include the quarter inch that really isn't there). With my quads at 28", the lycra is stretched out so thelenght comes up above the knee. My waist on my jeans says 36 and I wear them at my belly button Irkle style.

So, with my Team Sho-Air shorts, I grease my stuff up with butt butter and let it fly with one pair of shorts with no complaints.

Hope this helps.

BTW- Bibs help out big time by not letting your slippery when greased lycra creep down.

Creepy side? I feel naughty when I have to take one sid off to relieve myself......

OOPS! That last part should have remained as a thought.

Check out the Sugoi RS bibs at Two Wheels One Planet. We've also got bib knickers. Rub some chamois butter on them and you're ready to go all day. I've worn a lot of different brands and these are the best bibs I've ever owned. They're not cheap and they're worth every penny.
