Default Tour de Palm Springs

Who is in for this? I read a post from a few weeks ago from Gurp about this and other rides. Is anyone officially in on this ride yet? Are you planning to get a hotel room?

I might try to sneak in this ride to see if I can handle the Solvang Century in March.

im considering it, just dont like the idea of a rough road, and the fact that my longest ride on my cervelo is still only 60 miles, lets plan to do 100 mile group ride and if I dont die I will sign up for it

Sounds like a plan to me. Gurp are you up for a long road ride next weekend? Anyone else?

I'm about 99% for this one. Chris the road is rough in some areas, but it's on and off, so you'll get a break from it. Just leave your tires at about 90 pounds and you should be fine.

I'm up for a training ride before hand. We just did 103 a couple weeks ago (Gurp and I), so I know we are ready. What did you want to ride Brian?

Mark, do you want to ride with us slow pokes? I have a couple more friends coming from my road club who will be riding a tandem, but they want to go at their own pace, so we probably won't ride much with them.

I was hoping to ride San Sevaine next weekend, but maybe we can do both??? Palm Springs is on the 9th, so we still have a few weeks to go.

I'm definitely doing Solvang again as long as the weather isn't like last year. That might be a little more difficult, but it's a very fun ride.

I'm working tomorrow, but I should be off by noon, if anybody wants to get in a later road ride, I'm game.

If I ride sat the 13th, then it'll be Cucamonga Cyn/San sevaine with PF et. al. I have church on Sunday morn, as far as I know, so I have to be choosy for now.

I need to move this "long ride" to the following weekend. I got my weekends mixed up. So that would be Saturday, January 20th. Would that be better for people?

I think the Palos Verde to Malibu would be a really nice ride, thoughts?

PV would be a really good ride to ride again, but it's really far for us easteners. I was thinking of maybe the 20th for a longer ride also.

Mike if you have a better ride that is closer for us all I would be interested in checking something out. Again I would prefer not to ride something with too much vertical and don't want to ride river beds.

If you guys can swing PV it would be nice. We might be able to coordinate a larger carpool with a meeting in Pasadena then all drive to PV. I have a rack that can carry three and can carry 5 in my Trooper.

GMR and Baldy = too much vertical and not enough miles to me.

i dont mind flat because that is where my bike excels, but i also like climbing, nothing better than flying down the hills at 50mph

If we ride PV there are hills but the ride I was planning from PV to Malibu does not have many hills.

I have put together a loop in Malibu that combines some classic climbs (so I hear) that have tons of vert. Up Latigo, across on Mullhulland, up Puima, down Rambla Pacifico, 38 miles 6,800 total gain.

My main goal was to put in the miles and not the vert, but again I'm open.

Any HB to PV to Malibu routes?

I haven't done GMR in a LONG time (like a year); I'd like to do that one again. Where can I get directions (since I used to carpool there)?

I think it'd work best coming up the 57 to the 210, go east a few miles till you get to Lone Hill, exit here and of course go towards the mountains. When you get to Foothill turn left and go to Valley Center Ave. Make a right and go till it kind of ends at Sierra Madre, make a left and a very quick right will put you on GMR.
