Talking arrrgh, im thinking of joining up!

so after many weeks of thinking, i want a road bike. went to my LBS and got sized up, ill fit a 60CM bike. looked @ a 1000 series trek in a tasty orange candy color (flare duotone), i really want it. was recomended because it is a good bike to begin road riding on. good comp. and such. i ask you guys, is there a better way to go for my first bike? maybe a more budget way to go? (buy a frame and build one) id just like your guys input. heres a pic of the trek.

Nice bike......buy a complete bike......too expensive to part one together. Also check out Felt....they give the best bang for the buck when it comes to road bikes.

My friend bought a Trek 1500 this summer and loves it. He rode the UK end to end (1100+ miles) and said the bike was great. Comfortable, handled well, good pedalling efficiency.

I was down in Trek San Diego at the weekend and they have all the 06 bikes marked well under MSRP.

If you are fitted and everything go check out ebay or roadbikereview.com

You can find that bike on either of those two places for less than any bike shop. Just keep your eye out for a while and be patient and you can get a practically new bike for a used bike price. I got my bike used with only 200 miles on the road and 400 miles on the trainer from ebay and I got a great deal.

That is about a perfect entry level bike. It should fit your needs for a while and after you have decided you'd like to continue road riding (or not), then you can step up to a more chi chi bike. I'd say you're doing it right, get fitted by a competent shop, then find the bike that also "feels" right. Sit on as many bikes as you can, and if you get the opportunity ride some more. I believe TREK has about the best technology going, but bikes are like shoes, what one person likes how they fit, another can't stand them. Good luck and after you get it, join us for some rides.

Pricepoint had an Ironhorse road bike with full Ultegra and carbon fork and stays for a grand, just an FYI.

I like Specialized alot and am very happy with my Allez elite triple. Trek is good, too. I think between the two of them you're going to find a lot of similarities. It's personal preference. But, look at the Specialized anyway, you might like it.

Oh, and welcome to the dark side.

yeah i saw one of those on ebay last ngiht i think. i really like those too. i was told that specialized runs a bit diff in sizing, is this true? i bet i can get away with any 60cm bike, worst case is i swap the stem. i want a road bike with a flat bar, but i know ill get laughed at, and as far as i know its not "aerodynamically acceptable" in the roadie world. thanks guys! this isnt the dark side, not riding is the dark side!! lol.

I don't know anything about Spec'd sizing being different. In fact, when I got sized for my bike, Chris put me on Treks to get the sizing right. So, I think it's consistent.

I got a Trek 1500 and it rocks. Trek lifetime warranty is tops. Careful of Felt. I have heard that they can be a little chency on the components and a few frames are not true. I got mine at JAX in Irvine b/c I want to support the dudes that hook me up. If you want some help, go see Pat the GM there or Jermaine in sales. Tell them Matt sent you. Good luck...now go to the roadie forum...lol...
