Dood, me likey road bikey. It's working very nicely. Pain Freak and I met up with Khai and Romeo and we put 53 miles on it last weekend. Tomorrow, I'm riding in the Tour de Foothills doing the metric century. I just cleaned it today and will lube the chain up good. Say, did you know the factory puts a waxy substance all over new chains to preserve them and that you have to strip it off and lube the chain when you get it home? I didn't. But, I found out! Me and my chain cleaner went to work on that chain. It's all clean now. My cassette is sparkly. The bike is a joy to ride. It accelerates so fast! Especially compared to the 60lb commuter I'm normally on. So, maybe in a few weeks I'll have enough mileage on it to get it tuned. So far it's shifting okay. I still don't like the brakes, though. I might try new pads and if that doesn't improve them I'll be looking to upgrade those first. Everything else makes me happy on that bike.

(psst, don't tell no one, but I bought some lycra shorts to go with it, and a couple Primal Wear jerseys, roadie style.)

So, you and me and Cathy and the gang should road ride soon. And dirt ride, too.

Not to hijack the thread but I leave that stuff on...I think it is great lube.

I heard that stuff was very good at attracting dirt and stuff and that you should strip it off. Besides, I'm using ProGold, your favorite stuff. So, make up your mind. What should I have on my chain?

Anyway, I had fun using my new chain cleaner. I know how you feel about cleaning bikes, but it works for me. A little water (light pressure of course), some simple green and degreaser for the cassette and chain keeps my bikes happy. I haven't had problems yet!

New roadie question...is there a road or trail that would connect the two river trails coming out of Huntington Beach and the Long Beach trails up north? I want to make a loop to connect the two up by like Angels Stadium but don't know the roads. So, the loop would be from HB North on PCH to LBC River Trail North East, then East to Huntington Beach River Trail south west back to PCH. Any recommendations?

agree with Dstepper. last few chains i bought or had installed i was told by lbs leave lube on and run with it. who it telling you otherwise

All lubes attract dirt. I use ProLink and have for a long time. The drivetrain, fork sanctions and seals are the only parts on my bike I clean. I try to stay out of the mud so I rarely use water on my bike.

A newbie thread on roadbikereview.com or was it bikeforums.net? Anyway, it was a thread aimed at giving noob road riders advice. One piece of advice was that the factory lube was not good and to replace it with your good stuff.

I like the ProLink. Good stuff so far.

Yeah, it's possible, but it would be a very long ride. I'd try to map it out on Google.

Basically you'd have to ride up the SART till you got to Corona then go west (numerous routes) till you got to the Santa Fe dam Azusa Cyn area and then descend down the San Gabriel river trail. You're probably looking at somewhere around 150 miles total though.....Hhhmmm, now you got me thinking.

Are you truely a pain freak? I didn't think that it would be that long! I'd guess about 80 miles???

Well, I did ride 6 - 200 mile rides last year and over a dozen centuries while I was training. Yep, it hurts.

I recommend the Franko's Map of Orange County Bike Trails. Best $4.00 I ever spent. Shows all of the bike paths and bike lanes in OC. There is also an on-line map of bike paths and lanes for LA county at www.mta.net/riding_metro/bikes/images/la_bike_map.pdf. I've concluded that the best loop routes are in OC, from the SART south, since there are a lot of bike paths and bike lanes to choose routes from. San Gabriel River trail is a good up and back (40 miles one way).
