Default Amtrak Century Registration Today!!!!

I just just remembered this morning that the Amtrak Century usually opens up for registration on the 15th.

Went to the website, and sure enough....it opened at 7:00 am and by the time I got on it was filling up fast.

Go to www.ocw.org if you are interested in this ride....but hurry. It usually fills up in just a few hours.

Sorry for the last post........usually I remember early and put up a post.

79 with the train-ride and 100 without

So........who got in this year?

My girlfriend and I got in after 20 minutes of refreshing. I started at 7:08 and it said over 1000 people were in the process of registration. We have a trailer that we were going to sleep in the night before near the start. Does anyone know of any campgrounds/rv parks near the start?

campground near the amtrak station in irvine? dont think there are any to be honest but i could be wrong. The closest thing i can think of off the top of my head is the rv park in newport which is still a good 20mins away (city streets).

Thanks minhster - 20 mins is better than the nearly hour long commute from my house. I will look into that. Sorry JamR - didn't mean to hijack the thread.

oh, since you ARE interested, here's the link to the newport rv park!

http://www.newportdunes.com/

the place is pretty awesome! it's right next to back bay which has a really good road trail to ride! You can also swim in the "lake" area. My gf does her triathlon swim trainning there. You can also rent kayaks there. On fridays they also do family movie night where they bring out a inflatable screen and show disney movies. It's also a block from Balboa island (home of frozen banana's and balboa bars!) Did I mention the place was awesome?

not that i'm condoning it, but you can still ride with all the people w/o paying. My gf and I did it last year and we paid for the support but not the ride back because we wanted to stay the night in sd and then we took the regular commuter amtrak back sunday evening. two of our friends joined us for the ride and they just made their own food/water stops at markets and 7-11's. if our schedule clears out we might do that this year.

Hum, that could be fun. I'd be down to roll out for it with you guys if you don't mind?

I registered promptly at 7am! So excited as I've never done this ride before. I opted out of the train ride back so I can stay in San Diego.

For those who missed the narrow window of opportunity you can still technically ride...you just wont have a number and you probably can't partake in the sag stops. At least this is what my girlfriends dad had to do a couple years ago.

you dont even get a number, you just dont get the wristband. lol.

If you have any MAJOR problems, they'll still give you sag support. I saw a guy last year that got a flat and the sag car stopped for him even though he didn't have a wrist band. The only thing you dont get is a route slip and u wont be able to grab food and drinks from the stops.

I reg'd with at least one other buddy. We did this a couple years back and it was fun. I am looking forward to it, can't beat a tailwind the whole way. Usually we get dropped off by one of the wives in OC and then grill and drink beer down in SD at my place after. I'll be on my red Steelman, probably sucking wheel as my friends are going to pike it the whole way I bet.

I don't know Pugz the ice cream at the top of climb was pretty hard to beat. I am looking forward to it again this year.

Missed it but would love to do it. If anybody wants to sell their spot I'll take it.
I've not been on the road bike at all this year but this ride you don't need a lot to do it as it's got very little climbing and the pace is moderate.
