I've been giving triathalons a thought for a few months. There's a "tinman" tri in San Bernardino on June 28th at Cal State San Bernardino.

It's a 5K run, 9 mile ride and a 100M swim. cost - $50. Not a bad (and cheap) way to see if you like it. If it wasn't the same weekend as Rim Nordic #1, I'd be there.

There's the Tinsel Tri in Hemet in December, the Turkey Tri in November and the Steamboat Tri in October. All sprints and all have that grass-roots, local flavor you want for your first tri.

morro bay has a fun short one: 1/4 mile swim (in bay), 20ish bike on pch, and 5k run in the sand.

i did the back bay tri this past april. i decided 2 wks before the race to do it & started training. i ended up back stroking the whole 1/2m swim! i was dizzy when i finally got out of the water! did fine on the 15 (or was it 20m?) bike & 3m run. not sure i'll ever do another tri again, at least not unless it's a pool tri!!

did the trek disney duathlon the other weekend or so ago. now that was a blast!
