It's a scratch, unless your itching to buy a new frame... then it's definetly a HUGE crack.

I'll show you a crack!

But either way it's time for a new frame anyways.

Did this frame see some sort of huge side load? I would think that if it were the typical cracking point, it would either be on the top or bottom of where the tubing meets the head tube. The scratch or the crack is on the side and there is no sign of disturbance on the top or bottom. Interesting. First photo looks like a definite crack and the second photo looks like a scratch, albeit in a strage location.

Just to be on the safe side and buy a new bike!

Go frame shopping. everybody could use a new ride. A new ride always makes you ride better.

Looks like a scratch to me also man but either way just tell the girly you are afraid to ride on it and to save yourself from harm you need to purchase a new rig.

Well, there's good news and bad news. The good news is that it really, truly is just a scratch. The bad news is that I used sandpaper to sand the paint away in that area to expose the aluminum underneath so I could tell for sure.

Oh well, so much for having a pretty road bike. At least it still works

Hey, great news! After dropping big bills on the iBis, the last thing you need now is to buy a new road bike. Wombat's house 7:30am for Ventura road ride!

just do a few stoppies and you'll find out...

Sit on the top tube.. apply the front brakes hard.. put your finger on the suspect spot and rock the bike back and forth with the front wheel locked up... feel for movement.. You will feel if it moves or not..

for the future. put a small bead of elmers clue across the suspected crack. Once it dries, jump off a curb, if the bead has a break...guess what???
