The teams come to the west coast from around the world for a positive experience, not to ride in the armpit of California.

AEG partners with ASO:

"Last month AEG, presenter of the race, formed a multi-dimensional marketing partnership with the Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO), owner of the Tour de France, to grow and develop each other’s events. Beginning with the 2008 Tour de France and 2009 Amgen Tour of California, the multi-year agreement calls for the organizations to develop and initiate comprehensive cross-promotional platforms for the world’s most prestigious cycling event and America’s most successful cycling race, as well as provide assistance with media and sponsorship sales for the races in their respective regions."

Now, that should be pretty cool. Not a bad pairing, and it will certainly give more oomph to the TOC throughout the worldwide cycling venue.

I always go to the TT in Solvang -- make a day of it and shoot shoot shoot.

Here's Levi on his winning TT ride last Feb:

Here's a map:
It ends in Escondildo. It would be nice to hit up Stone after spectating.

I bet they head out and do the Lake Wolford climb the Palomar then head back to Rancho Bernardo.

EDIT; just read on cyclingnews that the San Diego stage will end as a mountaintop finish on Palomar and will not go to Rancho Bernardo?

The announcement of the Tour of California parcours for 2009 during the broadcast of the Tour de France in America was no accident, as the promoters of the race, AEG, have partnered with the Amaury Sports Organization. Cyclingnews' Mark Zalewski spoke with AEG Sports' president Andrew Messick, who revealed that the race would see its first mountain top finish on Mt. Palomar

Not go to RB? Huh?

Maybe they will START in RB (RB is listed as the START, and Escondido as the END) and then head north, go through Escododo instead of ending there and finally end up north of there atop Mt. Palomar just N/E of Ramona?

I'm curious if Landis will make a return and have a team by then. Then he'll be racing on his home course, as will Chris Horner.

Very exciting. But now I'll have to drive all the way home from Sandy Eggo.

This is great news! Mt top finish on Palomar, that is awesome! Can't wait! Not to mention it is the last stage, so you know it will play a huge role in the final classifications!

If it ends at the top of Palomar, just camp there for the weekend. There's some real nice spots up there.

Looks like the mountaintop finish rumours are confirmed:
"One of the aspects left off the press release announcement is that the final stage near San Diego will actually be a mountain top finish, a first for the race. 'The final stage is planned to be a mountain stage up Mt. Palomar. Whoever wins the race will have to have legs on the final day!'"
