Default Good road rides/routes in Murrieta/Winchester area?

My GF and I are considering moving to Winchester/Murrieta area. We ride road together and have abundant riding available where we are now. However, we were wondering if there are any good road routes/rides in the Winchester/Murrieta area so we can keep riding together out there.

Thanks

There are lots of road rides in and around Murrieta. Try this link to see some of the rides people have posted. IE Bikes does a Saturday morning road ride as well. Floyd Landis mentioned in the bike shop one day that he was able to simulate the entire Tour de France route in his training rides around this area.

I have a great loop I do. I ride to work and back once a week. I start at Menifee rd and newport going south. travel down menifee, hit my first good hill and down hill all the way to scott rd, pass scott untill it dead ends and turn right to antelope. Antelope is by far the worst part of the ride, the rad sucks, the cars fly past you at 65+ and you have no bike lane for 1.8 miles. Then you hit clinton keith and bust a left to white wood and go right, he i pick up speeds in the mid 30's pass los al ( ie bikes is on the right so if you need to stop it works out great) white wood to MH RD left and then rt on margarita to the creek bed down to jefferson. it is 17.5 miles takes me about an hour due to lights and stuff. i then take winchester all the way back up to domonigoni left to newport and i'm home. total ride time is 2.2 hours and 37.1 miles winchester is a bad ride after the airport. I have done this on my MT bike and taken off road short cuts but it is longer onthe time. riding out here is tough with the cars and country roads so just look out for big trucks and the mini van moms on the cell phone. The last on will get you a visit to the er!!!

OH yea ie bikes rocks, and Matt is a great guy to know. The staff is nice and have helped me a ton. So when you get in town just know we do have a great "Family" shop in town.

Was Floyd able to simulate his doping in Murrieta as well? And yes, there are a ton of great routes in the area.

well...riverside county definitely isn't known for their bike lanes. you can definitely see the contrast as soon as you reach the orange and san diego county lines....wha, bike lane!!

there is a ton of riding out here, but it takes a while to find the good routes (and safe routes too). there isn't much in the way of flat rides...while training for ironman i had to do out and backs through the beautiful lake elsinore . if you like hills there is plenty of that around here. most of the days now, i just link up routes through murrieta and temecula....skipping from one bike lane to the next wider then average shoulder.

more often then not here you will find yourself with cars whizzing past at the common 55mph speed limit. wine country offers some cool routes...just dont ride in the middle of the day when everyone is nice and liqoured up. there is a great route to the ocean and back (oceanside) which is around 75 miles or so.

consult the IE bike routes for the good roads and routes to take...thats how i figured them all out.

i've lived in much more bike friendly areas, but now that i have the lay of the land dialed...it aint so bad here.

I have some friends that live and ride out there. I've rode lots of miles thru there. A lot of double century rides also go thru this area. Lots of good climbs too.

RivCo certainly leads the way in dope, i.e. meth. We can be up and comers in EPO now too.

Lukeweins, you hit it when you say there ain't much for safety. There is some great riding but there is little, and sometimes no shoulder on many of the roads. Add crazy SUV soccermoms, oblivious youngsters, and overcrowding and it can make for some dangerous riding. When I was on the road daily I found the early hours to be the best. Plus, you avoid the "sundowner" winds that hit about 2 o'clock.

I didn't realize there were so many rides out there. Thanks for all of the info guys.

I did notice when we were there the distinct lack of a bike lane on many roads that otherwise would make for good riding. Additionally, the trucks and SUVS like you said are hauling a** down the roads. The thought of an incident with one of those scares me. I live in Riverside right now and like Luke Wiens said, I skip around on my rides from one bike lane to the next trying to keep it as safe as possible.

today I did a great ride from jefferson all the way around the meadow view track, out to butterfield up to red hawk/ morgan hill and backup margarita. was a good ride, 2-3 good hills and 25 miles in under and hour and a half was perfect for my lunch break.
