Pro cycling! The National Enquirer of bike mags. At 80 bucks a year I passed this year after having a sub for years but I am tempted to go back. Meanwhile, I have my shop tear the covers off the ones that don't sell.
As for my Tour pick? Could'nt Ricco do well if he gains enough time in the mountains? Pantani could'nt TT either but still won! It's too wide open this year. I can't even phathom a guess. Evans, Valverde, Menchov are some good safe bets though!
I wonder how the euro's are betting?

Four stages down

Three different riders in Yellow

The two US teams ranked #1 & #2

Great Tour so far

Call me old school and suffering from some nostalgia but after watching 7 years of intense battles with LA and his counterparts (Ullrich, Petacchi, Vinokourov, Sastre, Hamilton, Kloden, Basso, Boonen, Beloki and Pantani) during his domination of Le Tour, I'm having a hard time getting-up for Le Tour. Yeah, some were juicing but man, there was some dramatic and intense battles during that time frame. Even further back during the Greg LeMond vs. Fignon or Miguel Indurain vs. Cipollini days seemed far more intense then what I'm witnessing so far. Watching Indurain win 5 straight was impressive and a feat I thought would never be matched...until LA came along. Good stuff and fond memories!

The last 2 years doesn't count as it's been a big joke and full of scandals. No offense intended towards Contador because I thought he rode brilliantly.

I do like Cancellara's & Evans' chances of winning but time will tell. The mountains always tend to separate the men from the boys. We'll start seeing in a few days!

P.S. What did we do before the Tivo/DVR days? Best thing since sliced bread and the invention of cars.

TiVo ShmiVo. Get yer ass up and watch it over coffee like I do.

Edit: Anyone notice how the number of Fred's on the road increases dramatically in July? Cracks me up every year.

I do get up early and have some coffee. Difference is, I do other things around the house and then start watching Le Tour around 7 and proceed to fast-forward through all the commercials and stupid stuff. No Tivo SchmiVo and I'm liable to go back to sleep or get nothing else done.
Lemme guess, you still have milk delivered to your house along with blocks of ice for non-electrical refrigerator and use a 300 bps modem to access bulletin boards on your old (circa 1985) Compaq portable?!

Technology is here for a reason and that is for us to use it.

Man you are showing your lack of road racing knowledge, sorry. Indurain vs Cippolini? Indurain was a GC guy and Cippolini was sprinter who never actually finished a Tour De France, preferring to abandoned before the mountains. Also Cancellaras chances of winning this year are only slightly better than mine.

Said in classic "roadie snob" tone. Gotta love it! Thank you for the clarification.

You have a chance of winning Le Tour? Wow, I'm impressed.

Eh. I usually watch the last hour after I get back from my morning workout...and it's a Commodore 2600.

I agree with you on the Lance stuff, man those were fun Tours to watch. This year I find myself rooting more for the American teams and checking the team standings more than the individual. Unfourtanatly, I'm horrible with names and only know the stand-outs. I'm rooting for Evans since he used to ride mtn bikes and he just seemed like a cool guy....oh yeah and I can pronounce his name. LOL. But really it'll take one or two mountain stages and another 4 days of racing or so to see who the clear stand outs are.

Anybody catch the interview with the Garmin-Chipotle team today? There was some eluding to a rider they wanted to sign, with a potential announcement coming in August. I'm thinking Landis. Solely based on the whole 'hush' tone and waiting until after the tour is over.

I'm going to vote for Alejandro Valverde, since it's been a good year to be Spanish... Look at recent soccer and tennis wins... I don't have any hard stats, but poll on Versus.com has 39% opinion for him...

Oh wow I saw that interview and I didn't even think of Floyd. That would be awesome!!!!

If the Tour organizers would ban the current Astana team, it would not surprise me that they would refuse to admit a mistake in Floyd's drug test. Not the most consistent or fair minded organization.

I had a thought of Landis might sign for Garmin-Chipotle. I also thought of someone like Horner since he only signed on 1 year with Astana. I'm really curious though. The moves they made at the end of last season were HUGE and were a big part of getting them into Le Tour.

+1 on that. It's the only way I can watch it!

Ya, but I have to be to work at 0600. Makes it impossible to watch it live. And hey, at least the Fred's are riding. They may stop when the Tour's over, but I got more stuff to worry about than weekend warriors.

Cadel seemed a bit pissy with the motorcycle driver. As Paul and Phil mentioned, it seemed he was a bit stressed, having to catch back up in the rain after his mechanical.
