Cindy & Jim were the ultimate cycling family. I've had the pleasure of riding with them and their daughters...
Cindy lost her life in a rafting accident up in Oregon. She was 52 years old I believe. Here's the story of her accident http://www.mailtribune.com/apps/pbcs...NEWS/807010326 And heres some more info from Chuck the Triple Crown guy "The finish line is just the beginning of a whole new race. We are not human beings having a spiritual experience We're spiritual beings having a human experience" Susan Saint James who lost her 14 year old son in a plane crash Hi, Many of us remember well riding with Jim and Cindy Von Tungeln back over 10 years ago on the California Triple Crown Double Centuries. Sadly, Cindy passed away while river rafting in Oregon on Friday. Cindy was a fun loving person and a great cyclist. She completed 18 Double Centuries and was a 6 Time California Triple Crown Winner as shown at http://www.caltriplecrown.org/Double...p?RiderID=5590 Their daughter, Kirsten, completed 16 Double Centuries and was a 5 Time California Triple Crown Winner as shown at http://www.caltriplecrown.org/Double...p?RiderID=5592 many of which were on a tandem with either her Mom or Dad. Kirsten is now 25 years old. Their other daughter, Allison, completed 9 Double Centuries and was a 3 Time California Crown Winner as shown at http://www.caltriplecrown.org/Double...p?RiderID=5589 many of which were on a tandem with either her Mom or Dad. Allison is now 21 years old. It was always fun when the two Von Tungeln tandems were out with the girls who had some huge adventures. Possibly their biggest adventure was the 1996 OCW Double "Godzilla Meets Palomar" which was a truly epic ride from Anaheim Hills down around Lake Elsinore, up the brutally tough Mount Palomar climb, then down and up around Warner Hot Springs finishing back in Anaheim Hills. This was an amazing test for all cyclists but for two tandems with their daughters, it was an amazing feat for sure!! Cindy was truly an amazing cyclist. There will be a Memorial Service for Cynthia Lee von Tungeln on July 3rd, 4:30 pm at the Irvine Presbyterian Church. Directions to Irvine Presbyterian Church: From the 405 Freeway take Culver North - Turn Right onto Alton - The Church is clearly visible on the Left, Next to the High School. 4445 Alton Pkwy Irvine, CA 92604 (949) 786-9627 In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations to one of Cindy's favorite charities, BEST BUDDIES at https://www.kintera.org/site/c.ljJ0J...MK0MJInISK6OYH Here is the most accurate link to a news stories about Cindy's death: http://www.mailtribune.com/apps/pbcs...NEWS/807010326 For those of you who are coming from out of town, or need it, here is the address of Cindy's home: 3771 Claremont St. Irvine, CA 92618. Please keep the Von Tungeln family in your thoughts and prayers this week.
