I'm now officially a little po'd.
Along with the Mtb, I do ride road every so often, and have a Specialized Roubaix pro, with Roval wheels. It seems the Wheels must be defective, or just a POS. With maybe a total of 2000 miles of the bike, I have had 3 broken spokes. The 3rd must have snapped in the lst 24 hrs. Got ready for a quick 2hr ride this AM, go to hop on the bike and wtf? front spoke broken. ![]() Now that I have vented, is this a common problem with Roval wheels? Is this a common problem with road bike wheels? ![]() I have never broken a spoke the the Mtb, and this is my first road bike, so I'm a little confused. Maybe a letter to Specialized is in order.... ![]() Any info appreciated. |

Back in 2004/2005 there was a story about a Chinese or Korean mfgr using bad wire, leading to widespread spoke failures. Specialized was among the victims. Don't know what year your bike is, but something to consider.
If you've had 3 spoke failures, there's most likely a problem with the build - perhaps even the rim. When replacing the spokes, the shop should re-true/tension/dish the wheel with the new spoke. Repeated failure after this = rebuild/new rim. CAUTION: Though I build my own MTB wheels, I know nothing about road bikes. IMHO, road stuff is built light and weak, so maybe it's par for the course. ![]() |

I was thinking the same thing, reb-build. Or replace wheels.
Thing is I really don't want to spend the money on new wheels, my opinion is this is defect in materials or workmanship. Taking the wheels to the bike shop today. Purchsed at Surf City Cyclery, which I've had great luck with in the past. Will let everyone know what happens. EDIT; Ok; Corrosion on spokes, and rim is cracking. And this is after apx 2k miles, and less than 1.5 years old. My verdict; Rovals are a POS. No warannty on these. Will post in marketplace a want to buy. |
