I totaled my car into a light poll about 2 week ago this friday. I need something to ride around the city and to school. And I think my butt looks nice in lycra also!!!

Tommaso was a pretty popular Euro brand back in the late 80s to early 90s. I never cared too much for aluminum road bikes, prefering steel, and was a Campy snob, so the Shimano stuff would have to go. Even so, considering the prices of bikes with European names these days, it seems pretty good.

Whats gonna break yer bank?

I would say if you can, find an '06 or '07 Giant OCR3 new. Very entry level but it does ride nice and the '08 sells for around 700$ so you might be able to pick up and older year for a couple hundred less.

Personally, I think you are better off looking for a fixed gear in your price range.

If it's just to commute on, you should get a commute style bike that you can put a rack on to lug stuff around.
An old mtn bike with slicks. Google commuter bikes.
If it's to become a roadie, I say welcome aboard but buy a better used bike if possible.
As for road web site, check out www.roadbikereview.com
good luck

If you consider a top shelf bike's rear cluster costs as much as that Tomatillo, I would tell you to stear clear. You should consider a rig with geometry comfortable for commuting. If you plan on racing on Sunday's, get a race rig. Trek, Spec'd, Giant, Bianchi all have reputable bikes. Also, as a commuter that may need to be left alone from time to time - be sure to avoid too many quick release parts. (Wheels, saddles) The dark side is fun, and if you venture far enough you will really freak your friends out. They won't be able to hang with you on the single track. My wife still shakes her head that I road ride. Welcome young Jedi.

If you are looking for a commuter/road bike then I would take a look at some Trek bikes. They are affordable and built to last. I own a 7.3 FX with flat bars and I am very happy with the durability but I can only ride about 30-50 miles with it because of comfort. I do not own a full force road bike but it stands up to the test for $500. I do much climbing with it and maybe someday I can afford a more expensive bike but until then I have noticed that the better the rider the better the bike in most cases. $3000 bike + weak rider = poser, $500 bike + strong rider = potential.

I think it would be fine for entry level. Just don't expect things to hold up on it.
